Aug. 18, 2013, YONKERS – The Nepperhan Community Center at 342 Warburton Ave. will serve as a pickup site for the Islamic Circle of North America’s Back 2 School Giveaway Project, a program designed to provide underprivileged New York students with free book bags and school supplies.

Yonkers residents can stop by the community center Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon to receive a free school bag containing notebooks, pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, crayons and more.

The ICNA hopes that this year’s initiative, which has more than 30 similar pickup sites nationwide, will help to enrich the lives of more than 25,000 children in need.

“We hope this initiative will cater to these needs of low-income families, and help build a better future for our children,” said Shakaib Jamal, ICNA NY’s project director.

Last year’s giveaway provided school supplies to more than 3,500 New York children in need.
