Dress Code for Muslim Women

Allah, our Creator, knows each and every need of his creatures. In addition to it, He knows what is good for us and what isn’t. Many times, there are certain things that we desire passionately, but can’t acquire only because Allah wanted it the other way. Pretty much like this is the case of Hijab and Muslim women dress code.

Women love to take care of their beauty, enhance their good looks, and improve their appearance to get praise from friends and family. Sometimes, a Muslim girl badly wants to go out on a party with her friends, clad in the skinniest dress that makes her look highly attractive. But when she thinks of Allah, she surely drops the idea.

Dress Code for Muslim Women:

In Quran, Allah has ordered the Muslim women to cover themselves up in such a way that their shawls are wrapped all around them. Their wraps must cover them fully, but not tightly. Their hair must not be exposed – not even a strand. Their head scarves or coverings must be completely spread over their heads.

Allah tells Muslim women to cover up in this way when they go out or in front of strange men “Na-Mehrams”, so everybody would recognize they are Muslim women. In this way, people won’t be able to identify their real selves as they would not be exposed in any manner. Also, chances of being teased will decrease.

The rules of Hijab state that:

The dress of Muslim women must not be skin-hugging; neither it should be transparent and see-through.

On top of the dress, a woman must wear a ‘chador’ or shawl that would wrap her entire clothes as well as her body.

The hair must also be covered entirely.

The shawl that covers her clothes must not be catchy or attractive in any possible way. So is the rule for headscarves and “abaya”.

Rules of modesty demand from the Muslim women to walk in a sober manner and avoid provocative gait. They shouldn’t wear any jewellery which produces alluring sounds.

Covering Face/Veil:

The Muslim scholars are split in two schools of thought when it comes to the issue of “veil” or face covering. One faction asserts that covering the face is obligatory, and the dress code is not properly followed, if she doesn’t wear veil. The other group states that covering the face is not an obligation, but is obviously a highly pious act. Therefore, it is better not to ignore opportunities of achieving few extra virtues.

There is an emerging trend in Muslim youth of turning towards hijab and veil. It is a positive step, certainly, but there are some issues related to the whole thing. For instance, it is prohibited by a prophetic tradition that women must not make camel’s hump on their heads. These days, scarves are worn in a way where they look like a real camel hump. This must not be done and everyone should spread the word to those who are not aware of this Islamic rule.

Also, the real purpose behind covering up Muslim women when they’re outside is to ignore any attention or interest from a man. These days, Muslim girls and women wear scarves and shawls along with striking eye-makeup and glossy lip colours. By doing this, they just kill the main purpose of Hijab.

In my opinion, the dress code for women provided by Islam is perfect for all the women of the world. A Muslim woman has been told to wrap her entire self in such a way, that no one is able to figure out if she’s a child, a youthful, or an aged woman. If this dress code is applied throughout our communities, we shall see considerable descend in the sex offences.

When we love something and protect with all our heart; we keep it safe in layers of sheets, and locked boxes. A Muslim woman is highly dear to Allah; she believes in Him and bows in front of Him. Allah protects His believer woman through Hijab. Verily, Allah’s decisions are the finest for us.
