Veils in the French Countries

on Friday, May 24, 2013

Islamic scholars have to say where in the Koran has it been mentioned that women must cover their faces. Also, there are no special rules that list the dressing for women in the book. It only mentions that they must protect their modesty. It adds that they must not display their ornaments and for this they need to cover their bosoms.

It has been noted that Khadija who was the Prophet Muhammad’ wife, also a successful business lady, never wore a veil and also protected her modesty in all ways. Women who were Bedouins in the Middle East sometimes carried the veils. Some among them often wore decorative masks like veils with golden coins to show off their money power.

People who lived in the western part got serious and sensitive about the idea to pose women with burqa that gives them a faceless identity. Burqa was put in practice for the women of Afghanistan to dominate them in the society. This is nothing but a piece of attire that covers the entire body keeping the eyes partially open to allow vision.   This became a huge issue it the United States. The French feminists made a huge growl by not only standing against the burqa but also against the other religious beliefs of Islam. Many Buddhist pilgrimages were demolished and music was also banned. Recently, the French government put a ban on wearing the veils.

But France has other types of veils that people possess. The veils worn here is not to hide the face, but it is a covering and the reason for wearing it can be different for different people. The veil also called a naqab is a black colored covering that has nothing to do with the religion or social beliefs. Some women wear it to show that there are rebellious and that their values have been rejected by the western culture. Some may wear it after being forced by their dominating men.  While some Muslim wear them to show that they follow the religion in a better way be covering the face in public. Even some people who have converted from Christianity to Islam also wear the naqabs.

One of the country’s ideal policies allows everybody to be treated equally and under the same law. There is no reason for why these women wear the veils. There is no explanation for the fuss over an odd piece of clothing that makes women a minority in a country that is one of the creative headquarters in the world. Only one explanation seems to be viable for this question. The French culture says that the eyes of two persons must meet for a conversation to start or to greet people. While the Muslim community says that Women’s eyes must not meet the eyes of the man. This must not happen even by chance and never with strangers.

The French veil is said to have both political and historical concepts. The roots are deeper, and it somewhere depicts the rejection of the French values of the public.
