MQM – A threat to Pakistan’s existence?

on Wednesday, May 22, 2013

There are few popular political parties in Pakistan that were given the chance to run the government, but with the passage of time there are other political parties that gained peoples’ attention. Particularly, if we talk about those parties that got immense popularity then there are only a few parties that got a majority. At the provincial level, there are some political parties that were given a chance by the people to make at least government at the provincial level. Pakistan were devastated by the terrorist activities. But the focus of terrorist were the tribal areas. Unfortunately, in Pakistan there is no political consensus that is found between the political parties.

MQM is one of those political parties in Sindh that always got the majority at the provincial level. But there are some concerns regarding the MQM activities in Sindh specifically in Karachi. MQM members are involved in a number of killings in Karachi. It is very interesting to know that MQM is led by Altaf Hussein on which there are a number of murder and kidnap cases.

MQM is the only political party in Sindh that have been involved in the government since 80’s. But MQM never gets enough acceptances from the people because MQM is not that kind of parties that they seem to be. There were enough evidence against MQM in Karachi, but no one government is keen to take action against MQM with knowing the fact that MQM has enough resource in manpower and weaponry that they can destabilize the region. That is the only reason that no one has taken the initiative against MQM.

There were many questions raised about the funding that MQM is getting from the unknown sources. It is also said that there were involvement of external powers that are funding MQM so that there shouldn’t be any peace in Karachi. Karachi is the major city in Pakistan that is very important for the economic activities as a major port is found in Sindh.

The history has shown that MQM are getting the majority in every election but the question is when MQM is now so popular among the people then why they are getting a majority in elections at the provincial level. Track record of MQM has shown that they have always forced people to vote for them. Unfortunately, elections in Pakistan have never been transparent specifically in Karachi where MQM has always influenced the elections and with that influence thay have always succeeded in getting enough seats so that they can take charge in Karachi.

Recently, MQM leader Altaf Hussein said a statement about the elections 2013 in which MQM has failed to get enough seats that they have previously got. People have protested against the rigging at different polling stations in Karachi as they are claiming to have Repolling again. Altaf recently said in a statement that if the people of Karachi are not satisfied with the results of the elections then Karachi should be declared as an independent state.
