Cyber-Crime Getting Stricter than Usual

on Friday, May 17, 2013

A recent report on cyber threat stated that the hackers and the cyber pirates are facing long prison sentences nowadays. With too many young hackers in the town, the control on the cyber security has become dull and serious.

A young hacker Andrew Auernheimer has to say that people with power often try to throw people into jail when you try to irritate them. He also warned that it didn’t affect him in any way and that he would repeat it again and again even being in a prison cell. Andrew and ten of his friends are known as “weev” on the internet. He was sentenced on May 4th and well before an hour he posted his views with his tablet. He narrates his own story of getting sentenced. He was led into the court room where there was another person who was to be sentenced before him.

Judge Wigenton was there to giveaway sentences to the criminals on that day. The Judge came in and asked the prisoner if he had something to say. The Criminal apologized for the crime he did, and said that he was ready to ask for an apology from the people there in the room. He also added that he loved America and wanted to get free after being in custody for over 17 months. After free proceedings, the man was set free. He was about to cry in joy. As this was going on, 8 marshals came marching in which made sure that Andrew was not getting released that day.

Andrew was not facing the judge, and said that he wasn’t there to ask for an apology and many of the countries has put a limit to the internet freedom but that didn’t work well.

In January, Aaron Swartz, a young entrepreneur was found dead. He had killed himself, and his body was found at the Brooklyn apartments. Before that, he was in prison for the crime of downloading many copies of academic journals that were copyright protected by the Massachusetts Institute. It was hardly a crime, but he had faced too much of the punishment. He was sent to jail for around 35 years, and this proved that they were giving this case a serious note. He was in depression for years, and as a result, he hanged himself when he was 26. Reddit was one of the social media sites that he helped to be developed, and this was among one his innovations that he left for the world after his death.

He found too many such people who were jailed just because they used the internet with their own freedom. He found many such pirates and hackers who had been going through the same condition. He started approaching such people to know what led them do this and what were they facing currently. He wanted to approach only the prisoners who were undergoing a trail, but many ignored him.
