on Saturday, May 18, 2013

Hamid Karzai has revealed the news in a speech at the 80th anniversary of the Kabul University that the United States is planning to keep the nine bases in Afghanistan. Karzai who is the person that has always been the victim of critic of the foreign forces was surprisingly peacemaking about the prospect of the US presence. He said that it will be in their interest to keep the American soldiers on the ground as long as these soldiers support the Afghan economy and the Afghan government.

In his speech, Karzai said that we will be giving them the bases to stay there till 2014 for the interest of Afghanistan. However, there will be a condition, they will be bringing peace and security and will strengthen Afghanistan and help its economy in flourishing.

The Allies are thrashing a BSA for defining the terms of cooperation and Karzai’s comments showed that the negotiations are slow as well as difficult.

Karzai told the students that they are trying to make sure that the interests of both countries are satisfied through this agreement. He said, we want more roads, hydropower dams, electricity and we want to see the Afghan government being strengthened.

He might have annoyed the officials of America by revealing the details about this plan to his nation, which sure, were kept tightly hidden by the Allies.

On the other hand, the US President Barack Obama has clearly said that America will not be fighting Taliban when the NATO-led Mission ends in the coming year. The staying groups of troops will be concentrating on their own work instead of training the Afghan soldiers and dealing groups like Al-Qaida across the lawless border areas near Pakistan.

Obama who had already been facing budget pressures and had decline risking the lives of his Soldiers and the US money for the Afghans had to explore a number of possibilities before supporting Afghanistan in the future. This includes the Zero Option that the US troops will be staying ending the bill for the Afghan military without staying at the ground.

The Afghan army is still struggling to master the capabilities such as detection of bombs, and he use of the heavy weapons. This means that the Afghan government expects to provide some forces to hold back the Taliban battle. The US Embassy has declined what Karzai had confirmed about the nine bases. However, it said that they are not trying to secure title to the land or to get some kind of rights for keeping their forces on the Afghan lands.

A spokesperson from the embassy said that the President had already made it clear that we are not seeking for permanent military bases in Afghanistan. It is anticipated that the BSA will be accessing the Afghan facilities in the future.

Karzai said that the places where the US wishes to keep its troops include Kabul, Bagram Airbase, Kandahr, Helmand and Shindad. Other bases include the northern hub of Mazar-i-Sharif and eastern Gardez and Jalalabad.
