Were Our Ancestors Better Muslims?

The debate on who are better Muslims, the modern Muslims or the ancient Muslims, can stay for ages. This is because of the gap in time and civilization; however, this does not mean we cannot categorically say who is better. The intellectual growth of the Islamic world has came up with a lot of development that has indirectly or directly shook the faith of some brethren in Islam.

Education has really changed a lot of things in the practice of Islam unlike the ancient man who practiced Islam in its purest form. There was no challenge of different Islamic sects or fanatics who were denounced by faith -unlike now.

There are so many teachings and misconceptions that were ignited by some wrong teachers or sects and misled many innocent brethren. This is the reason why a lot of people would prefer our ancestors when it comes to belief. It is a known fact that the world was better in the practice of Islam before now. There was less terrorism and violence compared to what we are witnessing today. The young Muslim, especially those in the United States of America, are struggling to keep their faith as they are labeled as anti-Americans and are mistreated citizens.

All of the above was not experienced in the past. A lot of Muslims who are in non-Muslim countries are deprived of all knowledge about the achievements of our Muslim forefathers. The way Islam was practiced then is different from what we see today. This is the reason why our ancestors seem to be better Muslims than us. And because we are in a modern world where there are lots of technological advancement, need for material things, entertainment that can be explicit, hateful music, violence and many other conditions in the society, a lot of modern-day Muslims seem to have lost it all. Other Muslims were deceived and even became terrorists in the eye of others.

Are our ancestors better than us in Islamic faith? The answer can also be negative as we are now more enlightened to make use of our knowledge as Muslims in our lives. It is now easier to pass the message than before when it was done crude. There are lots of things our forefathers were not able to achieve as Muslims, which we are doing better now. The reason for this is because we have become better in communication. You can see, there are lots of arguments for and against this debate. It is a two way result which makes it an issue that may take us days to argue. However, the modern man is a better Muslim which is what we should understand. This is why we have become the future of Islam around the world and making a lot of converts unlike before when it was done with violence.
