Several voices started to protest, nationwide, against the plans to develop a city park fuel in Turkey. We wonder if the protests will influence Turkey’s image.

All around Turkey, anger over plans to develop a city park has developed into nationwide protests against the Turkish government. First, it was all about one single park, but plans to renew a public open space in Istanbul turned the people into an angry mob, with civilians’ protests all over the country.

The government managed to raise the anger of tens of thousands people nationwide. Accusing the Police of being heavy-handed, people in 48 cities across Turkey started to gather and protest against the government decisions.

It seems that all the protests occur due to an oppressive and uncompromising rule stated by the prime minister, who doesn’t take into account the wish of the people all around Turkey. They all state that they only want to be heard by the government and nothing more.

Protestants allege that two people were killed and more than a thousand were hurt during the protests, but the facts were not confirmed by the authorities.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the prime minister of Turkey, agreed that several things might have been better, but he also accuses his political opponent of stirring up the people taking part in the protest. Also, he states that the people are mislead by the opposing party and that they are talking about a shopping center, when, in fact, there wasn’t any decision on this matter. The prime minister also stated that maybe they would build a museum or a venue for different activities.

Although there are no documents about the further building in the park, people are still protesting.

Erdogan, leader of the Justice and Development Party, also known as the AK Party, was elected as a prime minister in 2003 and is known to have strong roots in political Islam. It seems that all this mess is caused by a political misunderstandings.

The ruling party, AK Party, was elected again in 2011, after years of good leading, but it seems that during recent years the government has become more authoritarian and is constantly facing accusations of so-called Islamisation. They are said to intimidate journalists and free speech, and also they are accused of abusing the law and implementing alcohol restrictions and banning kissing in public.

Angry voices state that Erdogan wants to change the constitution in order to allow him to run for another term, as the actual law does not allow it.

Political analysts explain that Erdogan was elected in democratic ways, but he proved to be too defiant and a real threat to the people of Turkey. Considering these facts, people do not support him anymore, mainly because in the last months he started to change laws and implement regulations that people do not agree with. In an example, he named a bridge after a controversial Ottoman Sultan, a move that only created controversy and disapproval. More and more voices accuse him of not listening to the people’s needs and wants and agree that his future as a prime minister is uncertain.
