If you are settled in the UK as a resident, then you have the right to stay there without any period restrictions no matter to which country you belonged. You have no need to apply for the British citizenship; however, the majority of immigrates wanted to apply for the British nationality.

Good character, proficiency in English language and knowledge about life in the UK are formally tested basic requirements. But the most importance and crucial thing is your criminal record, if you are involved in any criminal activity or found guilty in the past, then you would never get the British nationality.

If you are under 18 years old, then registration is the only way through which you can apply for British citizenship. This law is applied on adults but under special and specific circumstances.

Finally, you can get the UK nationality through any mean, but if you want to avoid problems then you must apply for registration and Naturalization.
