Why concept of Old Age Homes has increased in the West?

Old age home concept is increasing day by day because children in the west are becoming more independent, and they leave home once they reach the age of maturity to have their own life leaving their parents at their places as they know the government will look after them. On the other side, the parents prefer to stay alone when they reach old age. The main problem is that life is moving faster, and everyone is running to make more money that’s why they don’t have any time for old staying at home parents who want someone to look after them or want someone to talk to them.

One of the main issues is the speed of life and the difficulty in jobs when compared to the past twenty-five years. Due to the economic conditions of the whole world earning money just to survive has become very difficult for most people. In this stage, people in many families both men and women are spending most of their time working and running to make money. This has created a major gap between families which was never there before. This gap slowly widens as people grow old, and eventually comes to a stage at which one’s parents might become a burden for some. Now most of the parents, on the other hand, do expect the kids to take care of them, but in some cases they need to go through this old age themselves.

With the gap between the family members, it gets difficult to help and take care of the old parents. In most cases keeping them in an “Old Age Home” is the best or we should say easiest option where the parents can be taken care of, and will also have people to accompany them in the old age and talk to them and spend time.

One of the other main reasons for “Old Age Home” increasing in the West are the fact that the Western culture primarily teaches the kids that they need to be independent. Many kids get independent as soon as they turn 18. Now after being independent for many years, it is not practical for many people to go back to their parents houses, and have their parents telling them what to do and what not to do. In some cases, some people do that, but in most it does not happen. Also in many cases, the parents themselves do not prefer to stay with the kids so that their kids can have their own life without causing any issues or concerns in their lives.

Having the parents in the “Old Age Home” has a lot of disadvantages on the long run. The kids should have their grandparents close by so that they can learn from them. Also, having the parent around does help a lot by learning from their experience in life. Their experiences are important stories that we can always use to make sure that we do not make the same mistakes in our lives.
