Youth Lose Temper Against Unemployment

on Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Sweden is facing a financial crisis resulting in high percentages of people facing unemployment. The reaction came when the people gathered on the outskirts of Stockholm where the crowd not only burned the restaurants and the cars, but the police also got attacked by them as the protesters were of the view that there must be employment opportunities given to the people.

Two cars were set on fire by the youth. The protesters not only damaged the public property, but a police station also got damaged as the protesters set up fire in it. The police arrested a number of people, but according to some sources there were no casualties reported to the police.

Riots began against the call by the Swedish prime minister that people should keep calm. The damage was done by throwing stones at the buildings including schools and arts and craft center. The violence continued for four days.

Stockholm police spokesmen while giving a statement said that there were many places where the riots begin randomly. He also added that one of the police officer was injured due to some attacks, and there were many arrests made by the police.

As a witness of the attacks, one of the youth called Seleck Ceken, who works at the youth center said that there were almost 40-50 number of people who threw stones at the police station before they ran away damaging the windows. The situation was in control before raid made by the police in which 69 year old man got killed while he was only wielding a blade at his place. The riots then kept on spreading in the outskirts of Stockholm.

This was caused maybe due to the fact that the society is now having the feeling that they are not provided with the opportunities that they were looking for, said Al-Khamisi who is the co-founder of megafenon, one of the social group that works in the outskirts of Stockholm. It is frustration that people are showing in the streets against the policies of the government that have given them nothing.

Talking about the reasons behind the riots in Stockholm, an editor of the local newspaper Rouzbeh Djalaie said that it happened as it was expected. People is suffering from social injustice in society. Not only this, the way police handled the whole situation was extremely unprofessional.

Even though, there is a drastic increase in percentage of unemployment in Husby that is almost double than the average unemployment of the whole Sweden. As far as the living standards are concerned, it is still quite healthy in Europe. It is said that immigrants can have the best possible opportunities in Sweden but according to OECD data immigrant have suffered the most.
