Cambridge International Examinations: Is it good for not being A Pakistani System

on Saturday, June 1, 2013

I can realize when my tension towards the coming CIE A level examination takes the total of my own eagerness and captures a political view. Being hesitant with the examination issue, I went to my teacher for better knowing.

Without reducing it, my tension became higher; I was totally tensed about the hearing issues.

“Come on, those who have completed the many previous paper perfectly, they will do better without any hesitation. Without that, you have no need to expect something good.”

I tried to give importance to what I call the CIE ‘exam formula’. In Pakistan, people are ready to find the corrupted way very quickly for their local examination, which is very simple in here, the implications of a CIE ‘exam formula’ are tough.

As a 12th grader recently carrying my AS level, I think that the educational sector and its scopes are carrying a way or a system which is really puzzling. It is very common that the image of the “local education board” has became very negative and hated. People have no trust or faith in the education board, but the education board is responsible for this situation. It has failed to arrange a fair exam.

The total education boards have maintained an unfair process under the direction of Karachi Board textbook. They have gone away for their unfair examination. A lot of International examination boards in Pakistan are maintaining this notion. They are accepting the glorification but not following the real criticism. Cambridge International Examination is one of them.

When you come to the discussion of South Asia’s colonial history with Britain, then you find a discussion which is not giving the real picture of history.

I am the lucky one who has a better idea about the two boards very clearly. This idea is because I have given secondary school exams in both boards i.e. SSC and CIE. I have understood the notion or thinking of these two boards. I have seen the thinking of each which is really very different.

O/A level students have very narrow sight to the SSC or HSSC education. They think what they do, is the most perfect.

On the contrary, CIE qualification is regarded as the best education. The students of this qualification get extra respect to the other. They are considered the best meritorious students. O level students feel extra satisfaction.

“Thank God I’m maintaining O levels! I’d never have been able to go with rote learning philosophy too much!”

This kind of disgracing comments, about the main education system, sound really bad as they act like the biggest superiority complex problem initiators in young minds. At least the education systems should not inculcate in them such traces of hatred.

When the examination date comes very close, I feel nervous about my exam. My teachers give extra attention on preparing from the previous papers.

To do better in CIE requires monetary resources. Thus, for the upper classes, education through an international education board like CIE is in scope which is very simple for doing better in life, but you will never get that better something in the lower social classes.

It is argued that CIE education pattern is developed by maintaining the socio-political situation of those countries. So the effects of this education are huge.

The social difference is very clear. By the proper notification, CIE has the scope to develop the European notion to the Pakistani society simply by giving the proper idea to the students to inculcate the CIE “formula” based on which they’ll be graded in their exams. The local curriculum and educational boards didn’t describe the objectives and distorted the texts either, but Pakistan’s geopolitical history with Britain is a fixed problem where the Western education like CIE is tensed.

These kinds of self knowledge of the Europeans about the Pakistani matters avoiding the real knowing of the contextual ways has created very tough situational imbalance for academic study of the Pakistani students who have no clear idea about the issue. So with these kinds of degrading educational problem, we cannot achieve the true purpose of educating our masses, which are nothing but empowerment and prosperity. The motive of education has pierced into insult.
