As a Muslim woman who is deeply concerned about Islam and Muslims around the world, I cannot just ignore a sorrowful and tragic incident like the one which took place on 1sth July three years ago, in Germany.
A beautiful Egyptian lady in her late twenties was enjoying her time with her little three-year-old son in a public playground, when a furious stranger triggered a quarrel with her over whether his niece of her son should play with the swing. Suddenly, he began insulting her and calling her names like “Islamist”, “terrorist” and a “Slut”! After that, Marwa felt terribly upset as no one sympathized with her and sued him for verbal abuse of words about racism against Muslims.
After testifying against Wiens, the court charged him with a penalty of € 330 which got increased after he adamantly refused to pay. On the 1st of July, while El-Sherbeeny and Wiens were in the courtroom testifying, suddenly, he jumped on her and stabbed her brutally and heartlessly more than 15 times in front of her son and husband. In a quick attempt to stop the criminal from killing his wife, the husband got stabbed in his chest and the poor child got some injuries too.
Sadly, Marwa breathed her last inside the courtroom, however, her husband and her son survived the incident. Although a life-sentence was the verdict of the judge against Alex Wiens, nothing could put out the rage of the Muslim world.
Several protests were held in favor of El-Sherbeeny at the embassy of Germany in Egypt and in many countries around the world. Ever since this incident and Marwa is called “the martyr of veil”. However to me, the idea is not about veil as much as it is about racism against Muslims in general.
Alex Wiens, who is originally from Russia, had immigrated to Germany since 2003, and, is apparently loaded with contempt and fury against any Muslim, in any part of the world. His anger had controlled his mind and heart that he brought himself to kill an innocent person just because of her religion.. just because she is a Muslim!
The hatred that this criminal exhibited towards Muslims through his heinous deed could be stemmed from the terror spread by Al-Qeada and the suicidal attacks launched every now and then. Although these are completely rejected in Islam, why do not incidents like El-Sherbeeny’s provoke the international community too? Why is it only Muslims who are mistaken and whatever wrong they do should raise the alarm of the whole world?
In spite of the fact that the Jews are killing our Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine every second and are full of racism against Muslims, we can never hurt them when they come to visit our land. Not only because Islam allows fighting only in wartimes and in the land where war takes place, but also not every single Jew have to be a racist, or Zionist.
Why is it so difficult for many non-Muslims to understand the same towards Muslims? Why does the sight of hejab or burqa draw fear inside some people? Why did Sarkozy insist on banning burqa? Is not Europe the land of freedom? Why do people care about the cover and not the heart? Based on what did he Judged El-Sherbeeny and called her an “Islamist”? What gave him the right to end her life at once and believe that it does not matter with her being insulted? Unfortunately, the number of questions is directly proportional with the lost lives!
