Face veil was banned by French Parliament on 14 September 2010 by Senate of France. This act resulted in the ban on face covering by clothes including helmet, masks, niqabs, balaclava and various other face coverings. This ban is also applied to Burqa, if it covers the face.
Due to the imposition of this ruling, Muslim families living in different cities of France are suffering from numerous difficulties. Especially women as they feel unsafe and find it difficult to come out of their homes without veil.
But a strange -however- expected incident happened on the 18th of June 2013. A 21 year old French Muslim woman wearing veil was attacked by two French Islamophobic men in Paris. The lady was four months pregnant. AFP news reported that both men first took off her headscarf and later started cutting her hair. After that, these extremists shred her clothing. At this moment, she screamed out that she was pregnant and one of those brutal Islamophobic started kicking her in her belly.
The injured lady was taken to Argenteuil Hospital for emergency treatment as she was suffering from internal stomach injuries and other physical injuries. Despite all medical efforts, on Tuesday, the lady had a miscarriage and lost her baby forever.
According to a daily mail report, police said that both attackers have shouted xenophobic insults at the women saying that face covering was no longer tolerable in France. Her lawyer was called by her husband who added that the whole family of lady is shocked by the tragedy and would not be making any comment or remark.
Same tragedy occurred in France at least three weeks ago when a Muslim lady wearing headscarf was attacked by Islamophobic individuals in the same region in Paris. But the question is, for how long this will go on? Why the government is unable to secure the human rights of Muslim community? I wish and pray that we should not hear about any such incident in future. Ameen!
