Non Muslims Are No Less Humans –Be Kind

on Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Islam is a religion of peace, a religion that spreads the message of humanity, morals, and respect. There are countless citations in the Holy Quran where Allah SWT has ordered us to be just, humane and polite to all of humanity. And do not forget that such orders were not in lieu of our behaviors with Muslims only, these orders were directed to Muslims regarding their behavior with humanity in general –which obviously means we owe this duty towards non Muslims too!

Let me present to you one of the many irrefutable evidences towards the same. There is a hadith that goes by:

“If anyone kills an innocent human being it is as if he has killed the whole humanity”

Looking into it deeper, we see that the hadith doesn’t say anyone who kills an innocent Muslim instead the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAWW said anyone who kills an innocent human being which obviously means that killing an innocent non Muslim is as much of an evil as it is to kill a Muslim. It also proves the grand importance given to the matter of humanity in Islam –anti-Islamic bigots should give special attention to this. So we are ordered directly; we are not supposed to harm any innocent soul! Alas we forget!

Moving on, the second point that matters a lot to me personally is when Quran states:

“Wa-ma arsalnaka illa Rahmat-al-il-aalameen”

Meaning, our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW was sent down to earth as a blessing to all creations. Again, Allah SWT does not say He was sent down as a blessing for Muslims alone, it is the whole humankind and every other creation! So if we, for our own twisted reasons start thinking that it is okay to harm someone, be prejudiced against them or even kill them for that matter simply because they are non Muslims; we should think again. We are going expressly against God’s order, and at the same time we are disrespecting our own Prophet SAWW by harming someone for whom our Prophet was pronounced as a blessing. How vile is that!

So this clears what our stance should be. But what a pity it is that some of us are still so misguided that they ignore such a clear principle of Islam –forget humanity. For those who would argue that these statements do not go for the foes, let me post another question; are you sure that all the people that are killed because of the extremism are our foes? Couldn’t there be a single innocent soul among the victims of one of the suicide blasts? The answer is no… that is not possible. Those extremists might then argue that those lives are collateral damage, I ask them is there any exception mentioned in the aforementioned hadith and ayat? No, there isn’t. Which means a human life is a human life no matter what.

Why then do we see 14 year olds like Rimsha Masih being persecuted when she isn’t even mature enough to know right from wrong! Why Christian Colonies are burnt, if there was a person who committed blasphemy he should be accountable for it in the court of law. Killing groups at large and making all of them homeless by burning their homes is not Islamic Justice because everyone of us is sure that there must have been innocents among the persecuted Christians, there must have been people who were not party to any such atrocity as disrespecting the Holy Quran –there might even have been people against it!

We need to start following our religion before trying to become its saviors. Because if we are not following it, we will destroy it ourselves –we are committing the same vile act that those Islam hating hypocrite do, in our own way. No matter what happens, at the end of the day non Muslims are no less humans, and we need to treat them with respect as long as they are respecting us –and this does not mean that if one person disrespects Islam we should take up arms against the whole group because that would be the same as what they do. They start blaming Islam because some misguided Muslims have understood Islam wrongly. What would be the difference between them and us if we do the same? We are better, and we should prove it!
