The Use and Benefits of Pocket Quran

on Thursday, June 20, 2013

A Hadith from Mishkat al-Masabih stated that, the Holy Prophet said, ”Undoubtedly, the heart gets rusted like metal gets rusted when water goes over it, to which the people asked, ”How can the hearts be cleaned” and the Prophet replied,” To remember death in abundance and to recite the Holy Quran.”

A hadith in At-Tirmithee states that whoever reads a letter, from Quran, gets a reward. That reward is multiplied by ten…” The hadith clearly recommends reading the Quran, and since it may be near impossible with the fast moving world to recite the big version of the Quran wherever need be, a pocket Quran comes in handy.

Reciting the Quran reaps a number of benefits and virtues, which is why it is recommended to learn how to recite it properly. A qualified Sunni Alim can teach you how to properly read your Quran. For the case of mature sisters, a visit to a Qualified Sister will ensure that you learn how to recite your Pocket Quran correctly. Children should be sent to Madras where they learn how to properly read the holy book with the correct pronunciation and Qirat. In this way, mistakes that are unknowingly made and which inadvertently change the meaning and breaks Salah can be avoided.

There are a number of benefits attached to correctly reading your Pocket Quran, some of which include:

• The Quran is an intercessor in the day of judgment. This means that if you put it before you, according to the prophet, then it will lead you to paradise.

• As a Muslim, your status is raised when you read the Quran. The more you read of the Holy Book, follow the commandments, and make the Quran a part of your life, the more Allah will elevate your status in this life and the next.

• The Quran has healing powers.(read Quran Al-Isra’ 17:82)

• By reading the Quran, any worries or regrets that you may have will be dispelled.

However, there are a number of etiquettes that you should follow as a Muslim while reciting your Pocket Quran. Some of which include:

• You should strive to be sincere when you learn and recite the Quran.

• You should apply its teaching, which means that you should obey its commands and avoid its prohibitions.

• You should recite and study the Quran consistently.

• Never say “I forgot” when it come to your memorization, but rather say “I was made to forget”. This is because saying ‘I forgot” will imply neglect of the Quran.

• Never ever recite the Quran from memory whilst in a state of minor ritual impurity such as after sexual relations or a wet dream.

Ultimately, reading of your Pocket Quran and learning it as a Muslim saves your Salah, your Iman and your Akhirah. Learning the holy book is a life-long process of understanding what it says. As a Muslim, it is recommended that after learning it, you practice it and spread the word to your family and community.
