Hazrat Osman Ibn Affan

on Thursday, June 27, 2013

His name is Osman Ibn Afftan or Abu Amar. His title is Zin-nu-rain. He was a respectful man of Makkah. He was born in 576. He was 6 years younger than Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He was a very shy and wealthy businessman in Makkah. There were a few educated men in Kuraish tribe at that time, Hazrat Osman was one of those 17 educated men of Kuraish tribe.

He was a magnanimous man with a pure character. He was very strict about the misdoings of the age of ignorance. He didn’t like the wrongness of those days. He got the news of Islam from Hazrat Abu Bakr. He had very good relationship with Hazrat Abu Bakr. In “Usudul Gaba” Hazrat Osman is mentioned to be the fourth Muslim. The book described the comment of Hazrat Osman, “I was the fourth Muslim”. He served Islam throughout his life accepting Islam in its beginning. He spent his wealth in the satisfaction of Allah and His prophet. Hazrat Osman managed to marry two daughters of Prophet Muhammad. The messenger of Allah was very satisfied with this noble man. He was titled Zin-nu-rain, which means the man with two lights, since he married two daughters of Rasulullah Mohammad.

Hazrat Osman participated in almost all the Jihad wars with Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi oa sallam. He fought in badr. His contribution in Tabuk war is astounding. He bore one third of the total expenses in Tabuk war. He donated 900 camels and 50 horses in Tabuk war. Some historians say, he presented 1000 dinar before rasulullah. Allah’s messenger was so happy with him that he prayed for him; “Whatever he does, nothing will harm him”.

Prophet Muhammad gave him the news of Jannat. Hazrat Osman was one of those ten, who were given the good news of Jannat.

He went to Makkah during the Hudaybia’s treaty. The unbelievers in Makkah proposed to him that he could do the tawaf alone. But determined Osman (Radiallahu anhu) proclaimed that he could never do Tawaf before Rasulullah Muhammad. Then the unbelievers got agitated and locked him for three days. Muslims got news that Osman was martyred. Then, the Muslims took an auth. In history, this auth is known as “Baiyat-e-Ridwan”. Muslims pledged that they would fight until death comes. Allah declared this as “Fathum-Mubin”. This Baiyat-e-ridwan was very significant especially for Osman as Allah’s messenger took pledge instead of Osman considering one of his hands as Osman’s. He was the 3rd Calipha of Islam and served Islam throughout his life.
