The Gang Was Finally Sentenced by the Court

on Friday, May 24, 2013

There have been many reports regarding the sexual harassment in Oxford street. The complaints were made by many individuals to the social services staff so that an action would be taken against the guilty gang. While giving a statement to the guardian newspaper, a woman blamed Oxfordshire county council by stating that the council was not supporting enough to the victims, it rather kept giving false hopes to the families of the victims.

She also explained the way the gang abused her when she was only thirteen years of age. She was told that she might lose her baby, if she tried to say something against them.

Seven men were sentenced to jail by a jury led by a woman which found all of the men were guilty in sex abuse, rape, prostitution and abortion at the Cowley area of Oxford. There were 43 charges on the accused men. The men that were accused are mostly Asians and North Africans. It was also found that the group mostly targeted young teen white girls, as the girls were also sold for being violently abused.

Police and other social services’ failure allowed these men to have a stronger network between 2004 and 2012 so that they can have more susceptible girls that can easily be trapped outside the cafes and restaurants.

Oxfordshire county council and Thames Valley police heads have shown regret on these issues as they were criticized as not being active against these kinds of abuse. In a statement, they have made it very clear that they won’t be resigning at all.

One of the girls that were being used by the gang said that her mother almost did everything that she can do, but it went all in vain because social services and the agencies never took them serious while that gang became stronger. When the council took the initiative against this gang, they have made enough networks that they had control of almost everything. The Care Home wasn’t enough support for her because nobody listened to her at the care center either. All of these seven men were found guilty in the involvement of serious offenses, and there are higher numbers of chances that they would be facing long custodial sentences, according to Judge Peter Rook QC.

There are a number of arrests going on with the investigations, as well. The proximity of arresting more suspects is quite high. It was also found during the investigations that there were some gangs in Rockdale, Derby and Telford that were involved in the same practice. Weapons were used to force the abused girl for abortion, as well. While talking to the press, Professor Jenny Pearce of the University of Bedfordshire, said that this fact cannot be ignored that the white teen girls were the only target of these gangs.

The important aspect of this case that all of the men were accused by their own families and children. There were two sets of brothers who were also involved in this serious crime. Between 2002 to 2014, they were accused of 43 felonies targeting girls between 11-15 years of age. Three of the men were cleared by the court as they were not found guilty. The police was repeatedly reported by the victims. The police was also found threatening one of the girls for raising complaints again and again.

Answering to the question about the resignation, Sara Thornton, the chief constable of Thames Valley police said that she would rather focus on giving a solution. Six young girls made it possible that we got conviction she said. We would be gathering the information with the social workers so that we can come up with positive results.

Joanna Simons, the chief executive of the Oxfordshire county council said that her resignation is out of question for her. But the girl is still unhappy with the support provided to her by the council. The girl also said that she hasn’t received any positive response in the last four years by the council even after repeated complaints by her mom. In a statement, the spokesmen of the council said that they felt sorry for what had happened earlier and the measure are now taken to stop these crimes.
