As 2013 has been the elections year in Pakistan, there are lots of terrorists in Pakistan who started targeting the candidates representing different parties all over Pakistan. Still there are a number of rumors going on in the media about these attacks, but as the elections are coming closer this kind of terrorists are increasing day by day. As far as these attacks are concerned, most of them are suicide attacks and these attacks seem to be targeting some specific political parties.

Recently, two people died in an attack near Shikarpur toll plaza according to Dawn news. The attack was made by a suicide bomber. Later, reports revealed that the main target was Dr. Ibrahim Jatoi who was having an election campaign, and was moving with convey when there was a sudden blast near the toll plaza. Fortunately, Dr. Ibrahim survived the attack except the few minor injuries to other participants. Dr. Ibrahim belongs to the National Peoples Party as his party is threatened by the terrorists a number of times.

Three people were killed in Dera Murad Jamali, one of the regions in Baluchistan where a bomb exploded. The bomb exploded when an independent candidate Allah Dino was having a campaign for the upcoming elections. All of the attacks that were made are on political campaigns. From these kinds of incidents it is sure that these terrorists are trying to affect the procedure of elections, and there are rumors that there are a number of chances that elections might get delayed. Government officials issued a number of statements that elections would be held and to decide the date.

Though there are a number of political parties that are having campaigns at different levels, but these attacks do have a connection with the specified parties. Particularly, if we talk about the Pakistan People Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Awami national parties, these parties have been threatened by terrorists right from the start of the election campaign as said in a joint statement by these parties in Karachi. It is also stated in a conference by these parties that they were receiving threats so that they can stay out of the upcoming elections.

At Nine Zero, that is said to be the headquarters of MQM, all of the three members Shahi Syed from ANP, Dr. FarooqSattar from MQM and Rehman Malik who is also an ex-interior minister during the tenure of Pakistan Peoples Party said in the joint statement during the press conference that only their workers were targeted by the terrorists.

Dr. Farooq Sattar said, there are a number of powers that wish to bring right wing parties in Pakistan in order to influence the political parties working in Sindh. One of the candidates Abdul Fateh Magsi’s was killed during his election campaign in Baluchistan. Protestors in response blocked the national highway linking Sindh and Baluchistan.
