Kashmir still Occupied with Violence

Kashmir is engulfed in catastrophic conditions after the Kashmiri separatist Afzal Guru was hanged in New Delhi for attacking the Indian parliament in 2001 and for helping the attackers by letting them stay in his house. According to Indian reports, the attackers were armed with guns and bombs, but the Indian forces counterattacked and killed the attackers before they could cause any damage to the parliament building or any of the people.

It is known that Afzal Guru constantly pleaded to be unguilty and said he was innocent, but the Indian government did not agree and after imprisoning him, hanged him to death. The Afzal’s family said he never got a fair trial and they were not informed about the execution either.

India is said to be very unfair and cruel towards Kashmiris who do not abide by their rules or show any sign of being pro-Pakistani or being separatists. Since the beginning, India is strict in its orders towards Kashmiris and does not appreciate any manifestation of freedom that is expressed by the Kashmiri populace. It is not uncommon for the Indian army or the police to stop protests or beat people up with batons when they go on strikes or protest in any form against the Indian government, and a similar reaction was seen by the people during Afzal Guru’s execution, as well.

Internet services in the entire region of Kashmir were blocked by the Indian authorities so that people would not spread the news of the execution of Afzal Guru on social media and attract media in any way that went against the benefit of India. In reaction to the acts of the Indian forces, Kashmiri civilians started protesting even more, took banners written in Urdu on roads shouting and remonstrating against the Indian government and the forces. In reaction, the Indian authorities deployed hundreds of police and army personnel to curb the damage being done by the people, and they beat people with batons, trying to control the strike. This aggravated the people even more enhancing the violence cast by India over Kashmir even more.

It is common knowledge that such Kashmiri separatists were always backed by Pakistan and its authorities and so this time too, the Kashmiris sought to have solace for the Pakistani people in aiding them against the Indians.

Kashmir is always a point of interrogation and is always deprived of many things, freedom of expression and speech being one of the most obvious deprivations.
