The After Effects of Boston Attacks

on Friday, May 10, 2013

The recent bombing attacks in Boston Marathon created a new problem for lawmakers. The lawmakers have mentioned that this incident has forced them to think about the amendments in immigration laws. According to the law advisers, there is an urgent need of the amendment in the immigration laws. Legislators recommended an insistent need for the introduction of new security measures to avoid such type of incidents in the future.

In this recent bombing incident, two immigrant brothers were involved who originally belong to Chechnya. This is the main reason which provoked the lawmakers to bring changes in the immigration rule and regulations. Charles Grassley who is the head of the immigration law making department said that they are deeply studying the Boston suspects and also deeply observing what the weaknesses are in their immigration system that allowed such people to penetrate the society. He said it is not possible for an individual to come in a foreign country and attack thousands of people without any help. He said only one person cannot do such type of activities on a large scale and surely there are some people in the immigration department who may have supported them.

Legislation supporters said there should be strict laws and rule for the immigration. Law officials said that both Boston bombing suspects were living in the United States legally. Officials are in shock to know about a person living in the United States legally for a long time and planning for such terrorist activities with secrecy. It has also raised questions about the performance of the police and the law enforcement agencies.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was living in the United States from 2002, and he came here with his parent when he was only 9 years old. His family applied for the United States nationality after their arrival, and in 2007 the government of the United States granted them permanent legal residence. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev obtained the American nationality on September 11, 2012, according to the immigration department officials. While his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev who was at that time about 26 year old was killed in a clash between the police and militants in 2003 or 2004. Officials said at that time, he was A legal resident of the United States.

Even though, the fact remains the same that law enforcement agencies have completely failed to trace both Boston marathon bombing suspects. This incident provoked the lawmakers and immigration department of Boston to think about the policies and do reasonable amendments. It should have been realized by lawmakers and immigration agencies that there is an urgent need to look upon the immigration laws. There is a need for strict security measures and to incorporate the verification of additional information for identity proves from the immigrants like personal signature and fingerprints. Sen. Jeff, who is a very responsible member of the immigration department, raised his comment by saying that security is the main cause of such type of unpleasant incidents. He said that they need high tech bio-metric identification cards and such other means to overcome this problem.
