8 Reasons Why I, as an American Muslim, Don’t Feel Guilty About the Boston Bombings

on Monday, May 13, 2013

My mind is swarming with emotions and thoughts since the Boston Marathon bombings. I logged on the internet and was reading an article after an article and comment after comment on this issue. I am sure that I am not alone, but various people around the world are with me debating on this issue. American Muslims response to terrorism activities is not a fresh reading. Usually it starts with horror, sadness and then swing into anxiety, and finally anxiety is replaced with the fear of a backlash.

Each and every time all Muslims are forced to condemn the wrongful action to the public eye. The same rule is not applied to the non Muslim terrorists. The well-known excuses are provided from all Muslims to explain why they bear more blame. Let’s see these excuses:

  1. Islam motivates the bombers for terror as they became religious, they became terrorists. This statement about the Muslims is totally false. Remember that Islam advocates harmony, brotherhood, kindness, justice, peace and mutual understanding rather than terrorism or other unethical activities. How many Imams in the United States of America who become terrorists, no one.
  2. Non believers say that often little knowledge can become dangerous knowledge. Two main points that shock the anti-Muslim extremists; (I) Holy Prophet Mohammad PBUH distanced Islam from vicious type of Muslims (II) someone who is a Muslim does not refer him/her to a holy position in the eyes of other Muslims.
  3. An anti Muslim extremist says that Islam is based on terrorism. This statement is totally wrong. Islam is a perfect religion that advocates peace, harmony, brotherhood and kindness among the people of all regions without any difference except by pieties and good actions.
  4. They say that Muslims are causing various problems all around the world which is totally false. Some non believers are doing these unethical activities under the name of religion. Drone attacks in Pakistan, Afghanistan; the war in Syrian, Palestine, Iraq, and Killing of Muslims in Burma clearly shows who are the terrorists? Muslims are suffering from these problems all around the world.
  5. Anti Muslim extremist says that not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims. About eight days ago, a man traveling in New York was arrested with two homemade devices and no one heard about this terrorist plans because the media is silent. You can understand the reason behind that because the terror was a non-Muslim.
  6. An anti-Muslim extremist says that Muslims are not trying to control the activities of terrorism, but Muslims were at the front point of preventing the terrorist attacks from their ranks.
  7. They ask why the Muslims did not prevent the Boston bombings? The answer is that Muslims are not the FBI or Homeland Security. Muslims are not responsible for monitoring the other Americans.
  8. What is the solution for this misunderstanding and wrong concept of the westerners about the Muslims? Of course, the main root of the problem is to stop the oppression of Muslims, stop the drone attacks, the westerns-led war on the Muslims should stop, and stop the supply of radical metrical affecting the youth.

In conclusion, we Muslims also feel the pain of innocent children, men and women who have lost their lives or their limbs to the act of Boston bombings, but the Muslim society has nothing to ask for forgiveness.
