Famous British comedian Norman Collier was best known and recognized for his chicken impressions and faulty microphone all around the world.
Norman Collier who was patient of Parkinson’s disease living in the nursing home next to his home, died on 14th March 2013 at the age of 87, confirmed by his daughter. Norman Collier was born on the day of Christmas December 25, 1925 in a town named Hull. He was the eldest of eight children.
Norman Collier achieved popularity following the TV appearance in the year 1970. In the 2nd World War, he served as a gunner and after that he worked as a laborer at BP’s chemical factory, and started making his workmates laugh with his comic routine during breaks. With the help and encouragement of his manager, he started working as a full time comic in northern working club and enjoying steadly the achievement with time.
Debut at Royal Variety Performance in 1970 brought him to national media attention. Occasional appearance on the theater and television made him a popular and most famous national comedian.
He was best known and recognized for his two outstanding routines: one adopting the gesture, noises and movement of a chicken and another appearance of northern club compare whose microphone is working intermittently.
Norman Collier never moved to London and always prefered local area surrounded by his family in order to make people laugh at his comic routine. In 2009, in an interview with BBC NEWS, he said that he did not regret not moving to London or any other area.
In 2009 Norman Collier said that ‘’by making people laugh, he kept a good health and it also kept them in better and good health too’’
Jon Culshaw and Danny Baker are among those paying tribute to Norman Collier on Twitter. They say that people whenever around him permanently laughing with his comic routine.
