Is Muhammad Morsi a New Dictator?

on Monday, December 10, 2012

Since the revolt in the country, Egypt has been facing a crisis. There have been many protests, but the situation is getting worse in the country. Muhammad Morsi, who was named the new President of Egypt just a few months ago, has presented some new laws that the people of Egypt and the opposition are not willing to accept. Under these laws, it has been stated that no one can challenge the powers of President Morsi, which has created extreme unrest in the country. The people have come to protest on the streets and reject the new laws presented by the president.

The opposition leaders told the media that these laws will certainly affect the law and order situation of the country, and these protest will lead the country to more darkness. The opposition leaders and the liberal Muslim leaders have asked Morsi to revoke these laws as to not create more political uncertainty in the country. The referendum is going to be held this Saturday in Egypt. Fortunately, Morsi has decided not to delay the referendum, which will be decisive for his presidential seat.

Last weekend, a lot of new rallies gathered outside the palace of the president demanding a drop of this constitutional amendment that leads his authority away from the judicial scrutiny. Further, the opposition is not ready to stick to just this demand, but they are also demanding the referendum that is going to beheld this upcoming weekend. Analysts are viewing this as a battle between the Islamic leadership and the secular minded leaders.

According to a news paper in the country, it has been said that Muhammad Morsi will take the help of armed forces in the states where opposition is strong. The armed forces will take charge of the law and order situation unless the constitutional amendments are approved by the parliament. The military forces are also concerned about the security situation in the country.

We can say that this is a fight between the new Islamic brotherhood and the liberal minded leadership in the country. According to Islamic brotherhood, liberal parties have much less support from the people, and they are hoping to approve the constitutional amendments with a majority. But in case the parliament is unable to pass these amendments, there will be a big question mark regarding the democracy in this country.
