The use of inflammatory words by the Union of Islamic Organizations in France (UOIF) in response to the approval of gay marriage has not gone well with the people of other communities. Islam theoretically allows freedom of all beliefs without emphasizing oppression, but some of the extremist Muslims have condemned same sex marriages.
But later, it appeared from sources that the French government spokesperson Najat Vallaud-Belkacem has condemned the news, denying it greatly. The UOIF also added that everyone should understand “the consequences that it could have on society, if this new form of marriage and parenthood is legalized. The President François Hollande’s government has recently drafted a bill on “marriage for all”.
Over the years, the Muslim image has declined due to their violent behavior and outrageous comments, portrayed through the media. Part of the Muslim community felt that it was unnecessary to approve gay marriage. The news was although cleared by a representative, but the truth can’t be denied.
In a recent poll in U.S, a un-expected number of approval came from the Muslims as a surprise in the Referendum 74 campaign. Preserve Marriage Washington, which is seeking to repeal the gay-marriage law with backing from the National Organization for Marriage, was reporting 127,211 signatures — 6,634 names more than the minimum required to qualify for the ballot. Organizers need to get, and the Secretary of State encourages, at least 150,000 signatures to ensure a sufficient number of them are from qualified registered voters.
“The number is changing daily,” campaign manager Joseph Backholm said. “It’s now only a question of whether we’ll have time to count them all and stick the number on our website every day.” (ST, 12)
On the other hand, some of the Muslims have passed statements which have revolted many souls, Habib Khan, salesman, says, “It’s pretty clear from an Islamic perspective we have to support this issue because Islamic marriage is between a man and a woman,”
Backholm said Muslim leaders took the initiative and reached out to the Ref. 74 campaign, requesting thousands of petitions to be circulated in their mosques, and offering to work in a partnership through November.
“Christians and the Muslims have not always worked that well together,” he said. “Here is a place of commonality. We are building bridges.”
According to Muslims, Islam permits marriages between the two respective genders, but not between the same sexes, it is difficult to accept something beyond one’s code of life. The legality of gay marriage in France; therefore, gathered all kinds of opinions from the Muslim community. A substantial amount of people vented unhealthy views over allowing the marriage, but at the same time, a particular group of Muslims considers it valuable. Islam permits the freedom of all expressions of all believers, so Muslims are bound to accept the legality of gay marriage in not only France, but in the rest of the world. France will allow gay marriages from 2013 onwards.
