Middle Eastern Cuisine: How to Cook Chicken Biryani

Biryani is a popular dish that is enjoyed in most Middle Eastern countries. This rice dish is especially loved by children. Muslims all around the world try to replicate biryani that is prepared in South Asia and the Middle East. This recipe gives easy step-by-step instructions on how to prepare this delicious dish. You can’t go wrong with it!

Ingredients Needed for Marinating the Chicken:

  1. One Kilo Chicken cut into twelve to sixteen pieces.
  2. ½ Tablespoon of turmeric powder
  3. One Tablespoon of ginger garlic paste
  4. Two Tablespoons of red chili powder
  5. Two Tablespoons of coriander powder
  6. One Tablespoon of Salt

Mix all of these ingredients with the chicken and allow it to marinate for around six to twelve hours. The more time you allow it to marinate the better the taste will be in the end.

The Herbs, spices, and condiments that are used in the Biryani recipe are mentioned below:

  1. Eight cloves
  2. One Cinnamon stick
  3. Two bay leaves
  4. Six green Cardimoms
  5. ½ Teaspoon of Caraway seeds
  6. Some Fresh Coriander leaves
  7. 3-4 chopped tomatoes
  8. 2-3chopped green chilies
  9. 1 Teaspoon red chili powder
  10. 1 Teaspoon coriander powder

Other Ingredients

  1. 4-5 chopped/fried onions
  2. 500g of rice
  3. Oil is needed for deep frying and for cooking
  4. 1 Tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  5. Salt to taste


Steps:

  1. While the chicken marinates you should slice the onions very thin, if you want you can use a food processor. Heat the oil and fry the onions at a medium flame so that they do not get burnt. Stir the onions continuously so that they are a uniform brown color.
  2. After the onions are brown then add the marinated chicken. After that add 2 cups of water and then add all the herbs and spices that are mentioned above. Mix it well and allow the chicken to cook.

Boiling the Rice

In order to boil the rice take a pot and add 3 cups of water, add some salt, a cardamom stick, a few cloves, and some caraway seeds. Cook the rice 1/4th of the way.

  1. When you feel as if it is one fourth of the way cooked then you should add it with the chicken. After that seal it with a cover and allow it to cook on a slow flame. Cook until you feel as if the rice is fully cooked.
  2. In order to check the rice take a clean spoon and break a couple of grains, if they are able to break then the rice is done.
  3. After that you can add some coriander leaves and fried onions to it as toppings and enjoy the delicious Biryani!
