Conversion to Islam

Islam has certainly been spreading its popularity in many areas of the world, in Britain; the convertors are increasing in the past decade. The number estimated has been twice the average in the previous years. Over the past few years, Islam has been manipulated and portrayed negatively in its code of conduct. But this hasn’t stopped the believers from spreading the positivity of Islam across the world about their religion. It has been estimated that in Britain, the convertors faced much difficulty in conducting their lifestyle. They have been targeted and criticized for their conversion, as Islam has been portrayed violent across the world. But ironically, this hasn’t slowed down the process of conversion in fact; the number has been doubled in the past few years.

In order to gather a number, a study has been conducted by the inter-faith think-tank faith which estimated that 100,000 have been converted in the past few years. But again, many believers find it difficult to estimate an exact number of convertors, Fiyaz Mughal, director of Faith Matters says, “This report is the best intellectual ‘guestimate’ using census numbers, local authority data and polling from mosques,” he said. “Either way few people doubt that the number adopting Islam in the UK has risen dramatically in the past 10 years.”

When asked why people were converting in such large numbers he replied: “I think there is definitely a relationship between conversions being on the increase and the prominence of Islam in the public domain. People are interested in finding out what Islam is all about and when they do that they go in different directions. Most shrug their shoulders and return to their lives but some will inevitably end up liking what they discover and will convert.” (Independent, 12)

Another convertor named Batool al Toma, who converted as the Islamic culture attracted her, spoke about the number of convertors, “My guess would be the real figure is somewhere in between previous estimates, which were too low, and this latest one,” she said, “I definitely think there has been a noticeable increase in the number of converts in recent years. The media often tries to pinpoint specifics but the reasons are as varied as the converts themselves.”

It’s easy for anyone to convert to Islam. All that is needed is to recite the Shahada, the formal declaration of faith, which states, “There is no God but Allah and Mohamed is his Prophet.”

Most often, it has been observed that women find it a bit difficult as there aren’t any variety of clothes in Islam, so many new convertors have brought in style with respect to the norms and culture of Islamic groups. Most of the convertors are also due to love relationships.

The conversion to Islam in Britain is due to a variety of reasons, and is surely great and still rising, despite the negativity surrounding Islam lately.
