Othman Ebn Affan (16)

on Tuesday, October 9, 2012

I would like to start this article with a notice I received from one of the respected readers, as he told me that I write than name of our hero in a wrong way. He said that the name is Utham not Othman. Well, I told him does it matter if I started the name with O instead of U? I think the answer is no, all I need is to pronounce the name right and to read the story and benefit from the life story of the great Othman Ebn Affan.

As I said in the last article, Othman Ebn Affan added a lot of values to the Muslim world in his era and his achievements were really great to a community that needed a true leader like Othman. He managed to expand the Muslim empire, protected the Muslim community from conspiracies of Fors and Romans, which helped Muslims to have a period of peace and safety that made them able to build a strong world.

Another important achievement, Othman Ebn Affan expanded Al Masjid Al Haram and Al Masjid Al Nabawi in order to allow more Muslims to perform Hajj and Umrah without being crowded in a small area. He also gathered the Holy Quran for the second time in one book and copied the Mushaf (Holy Quran Book) that was in the custody of Al Sayeda Hafsa, seven times. Othman copied the Mushaf seven times and spread it in different places (Al Kufa, Al Basra, Al Sham, Egypt, Yemen, Mekkah and Al Madina) so that Muslims can learn the teachings of Islam. He also ordered to burn any other copies of the Quran, because there was mistaken copied of the Quran.

The Islamic economic sector witnessed an expansion in Othman’s time. He dedicated monthly aids to Muslim families and he provided each Muslim a Derham in Rmadan in order to buy breakfast, while he gave mothers two Derhams to buy food for the children and themselves. Othman Ebn Affan also ordered to make a table near Al Masjid Al Nabawi for those who can not buy food, as he wanted to be sure than non of Muslims are hungry.

There is something that we all should focus on, Othman Ebn Affan focused on two sides; they are the economic side and the military side. The economic side was very important for the Muslim nation in that time as it was economically unstable and he wanted to provide more stability to the Muslim people, while the military side was very important because the Muslim community was threatened by many powers, after the death of Omar Ebn Al Khattab, so it was important to eliminate such threats before it hurt the Muslim community.

Some people say that Othman Ebn Affan did not pay enough attention to spreading Sheikhs in the newly opened countries to teach new Muslims all the teachings of Islam that is mentioned in the Holy Quran and Sunnah. I think that this is not true, especially that Othman was the first to spread original copies of the Mushaf in different regions in order to be a reference for Muslims in any problem.

To be continued…
