Othman Ebn Affan (3)

on Wednesday, August 1, 2012

As I mentioned before, Othman Ebn Affan converted to Islam in its early stages, as he went to the Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him and the Prophet said “O Othman, Allah invites you to his Jannah (Heaven) and you need to respond, as I find you a wise man”, so Othman suddenly said the testimony and entered Islam. After this situation it was normal to see a lot of people in Kurysh and in Othman’s family, starting to fight him and work hard to force him leave Islam.

Othman Ebn Affan’s uncle Al Hassan Ebn Abi Alas tied him with chains and started to torture him saying “I will never let you go and I will keep torturing you until you leave this new religion (Islam) and go back to the religion of your parents”. In this difficult situation Othman said to his uncle “I sware to Allah, I will never leave Islam and I will stick to its teachings, even if you kept me tied all my life”.

Maybe it is easy for us to imagine this situation, but it is really hard to feel how hard the situation was for a man like Othman Ebn Affan who newly converted to Islam and his family started torturing him. It was easy for him to accept what they say and get back to the religion of his parents, but his faith became very deep from the first day of his Islamic life and he did not think for a second to leave Islam, after he found peace and found the right way.

The people of Makkah continued to pressure Othman Ebn Affan to leave Islam. As I mentioned before, he was a trader and his trades were very famous in the Arab peninsula, so non Muslim traders started to pressure him through this field. The traders started to ignore the goods that he sells and order the people not to buy from him to increase his losses, but Othman continued to have his patience and kept his support to the Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him.

When the people of Makkah and Kurysh continued to torture Muslims and pressure them to leave Islam, the Prophet ordered Muslims to do Al Hijra (travel from Makkah to Al Madina), so Othman Ebn Affan was the first man to do Hijra and he took his family with him. The Prophet Mohammed said “Othman Ebn Affan is the first man to do Hijra with his family, after the Prophet Lut peace be upon him”, and this gave Othman a great spot among the Sahaba.

It is really great for a man to be mentioned with Prophets. The Porphet Lut came hundreds of years before Othman was born, and Othman with his great faith, was mentioned in history to be doing the same as the Prophet Lut did. May Allah bless Othman’s soul and guide us to the right way.

To be continued…
