Turkey and Syria: Clouds of war appearing once again

on Saturday, December 8, 2012

The Muslim world is under a severe kind of pressure and crises lately. Not only have they had the fear of attack from the non-Muslim countries, but they get the same fear from the Muslim countries as well.  The recent incidents have shown clearly that the Muslim world is not having good relations with each other. The recent incident between the Syria and Turkey is evidence that shows a lack of unity in the Muslim world. Syria has been in crisis since the 2011 protest. In fact these two countries never enjoyed good relations.

These two countries have a border of 500 miles. The lifestyle and religion is very similar in the border areas. People are separated only by the border line.  Last week, a fire came across the Syrian border and it resulted in the sudden death of five Turkish people. This incident has created a sense of anger in the people of turkey and they demanded reaction from the government. The Turkish Prime minister has lead the parliment with confidence and has ordered the armed forces to attack the Syrian border.

Turkey is in fact supporting the rebels in the country as they were not having good relations with the ruling elite of the country.  The tension has increased, and Turkey has ordered their two fighter airplanes to bombard the Syrian border. There were strong rumors that Syrian helicopters are ready to attack the cities of Turkey located near the border area.

Turkey is a key member of NATO and has taken the matter to the UN council. NATO and the UN do not raise any points regarding economic sanctions on Syria. They told the Turkish government that whatever they will do, that will be their individual act. The pressure on the Turkish government is high as the people in country have started criticizing the government.

The Turkey government wants to avoid the war because it can cause a lot of problems for the country. There was a civil war going in Syria where a segment of people were fighting for their rights. Khurdish people want to have their separate homeland and area in Syria. If they attack Syria, it can cause trouble for them as well because a lot of Kurdish people live in Turkey, and they fear that this can be contagious for the Turks as well.

A shell aimed at the Turkish soil killed five people, but what was the aim behind this shell? Some forces want a war between these two countries to accomplish their own goals and objectives.
