The Stereotype that Muslims Beat their Wives

on Wednesday, March 13, 2013

One of the most controversial and widely held stereotype is that in Islam it is justified for men to beat their wives and daughters when it is required. The Non-Muslims make use of a number of references from Hadith and Quran in order to assert that what they believe about Muslims is true. Moreover, on a number of anti-Muslim websites it is also being debated why Muslims prefer to treat women in a harsh and unjust manner. Well, all these claims are nothing more than just misconceptions and false interpretations about Islam. In reality, Islam was the first religion in the history of humanity that exalted the position of women. Before the advent of Islam in Arabia, women were only considered to be a medium of impulse satisfaction. Moreover, people in those times used to bury their daughters alive only because they considered having sons to be the symbol of power and respect.

It was the teachings of the Great Prophet Muhammad PBUH that changed the attitudes of the Arabs and the world towards the women. He PBUH ordered the whole nation to treat women with respect. Moreover, there are also a number of authenticated Hadith that assert that women deserve equal rights and respect in a similar manner to men. That’s not all, as He PBUH also raised the position of women in the society by asserting that women are our mothers, who bring up children through a number of physical hardships and care. The belief that men are allowed to disciple their wives and daughters to serve them is nothing more than just a non-existent reality. Another popular misconception is that God has created men to be superior to women. In addition, there are also a number of beliefs that the world holds about the teachings of Islam.

The only way to test the validation and truth of these conceptions is to come and see for yourself the kind of treatment the Muslims offer to women. Incidences of violence and prejudicial treatment can be seen all over the world, mostly in the non-Muslim countries where the women are raped and mistreated in a number of corporate organizations, companies, streets and at homes. In lines to this, it is evident that the belief that only Muslims mistreat their women loses its ground. Moreover, it is also quite unfortunate that a large amount of literature is also being published in a number of countries, as belonging to Islam. Now I want you to think for a second that is it difficult to publish a book in the name of Islam and adding the name of a Muslim as being its author? No it is not, as anyone can write a book about Islam based on their false beliefs and unjustified attitudes against the Muslims.

Women have indeed been ordered to respect their husbands, but the same has also been ordered to the men. In fact, the Holy Prophet PBUH has been pointed out a damnation for the men who mistreat their wives, daughters and mothers. In this regard, he PBUH also said that the one who treats his wife, daughter and mother harshly has no right to call himself a Muslim. There is no doubt in saying that Islam is the only religion in the world that can claim to be the leader in women rights.
