Is it Difficult to get a UK Visa for Muslims?

on Tuesday, March 26, 2013

The transformation of the world into a global village has increased the inter-contentedness and the immigration across the world. The immigration of Muslims into the Western world has increased in the past few decades, and the Muslims have been now accessing all parts of the world. The immigration policies of countries have also changed over time, but the migration policy of the UK towards Muslims remains unchanged. The Muslims started getting access to the US and other European states including some specific parts of the UK, Germany and France etc. However, the access of the Muslim population to the UK and the problems they have to face while struggling for visa have largely increased in the past few years.

A lot of people living in the UK believe that the Muslim immigrants are not assimilating well into the British culture, mainly because they are not willing to do so. A survey conducted by transatlantic trends discovered that 53 percent of UK people share the same thought. It further revealed that the level of immigration has declined recently in the UK as compared to other European countries because “Islam” is considered to be incompatible to the British secular democratic system. The people residing in the UK are fearful that they will be isolated in their own state fearing the “Islamification of UK.” Due to these reasons, the Muslims today are finding it difficult to get a UK visa and immigration so easily.

Meanwhile, in the recent years, a lot of Muslims who migrated to the UK on study visas somehow managed to take other people with them, and struggled to settle permanently in the UK. This led to the expansion of the Muslim community within the UK. The problem of issuing such a large number of visas was seen by the government and strict restrictions were imposed upon granting of Visa to the Muslims. The British Prime Minister David Cameron called this as “immigration fraud”. He said that the Immigration by students has almost trebled in the past decade. He added that most of the students come with their families and trying to settle by getting low levels of jobs and that this issue is becoming out of control.

Due to such rapid expansion of Muslim community, the residents of UK started feeling secluded and started demanding limitations on the inflow of the Muslim population. The PM said that he wanted to reduce the immigration to the level of 1980s and due to increased checks and balances. The Muslims now find it quite difficult to get a UK visa. The Express Tribune reported that the UK government has imposed a limit of no more than 21,700 economic immigrants from outside EU including Muslims per year which has reduced the chance of “easy UK visas”. The fear of Islam taking over in UK has widened the immigration gap between the communities causing problems for the Muslim population in need of visas.
