WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL

on Thursday, May 2, 2013

A life without fulfilments is a life spent for nothing. Success is the basic veto power that distinguishes between a life that is worth living and a life otherwise. Then, what is the formula to success, what could it be that some people have and others don’t? If we could pen it down and share it around, may be most of us would follow the lead of those who have achieved their dreams –and savor the luxury called contentment. Alas, it is not that simple!

Though we can try to jot down interlinked factors, look at figures like Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Donald Trump or Warren Buffet and try to find a coherence between them –may be then we can know. But before we begin analyzing some of these big fish, let me make one thing clear; though dropping out of college is a common trait between the famous billionaires, as opposed to a comical belief, it is definitely not what success depends on!

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, born on the 14th of May 1984, has attended the Harvard College majoring in computer sciences and psychology. It’s not that he was a total doormat who didn’t want to get proper education, and ended up being the world’s youngest billionaire. Talking about Facebook, it was indeed a genius’s idea! But then again there already were many similar platforms like Orkut, so what made Zuckerberg excel you ask, the answer is yet another simple fact; persistence. Once you are sure that you have gathered all the essential elements of a success story; idea, hard work, platform etc there is one more thing that is required to keep everything together, that is persistence. You do what you have to do, you believe in yourself and you don’t waste a single second of your time doubting your idea, and then you carry on, you strive and continue to find things that make you stand apart; eventually you are bound to hit the home run!

Mr. Bill Gates, the most famed billionaire who has topped the ranks of world’s wealthiest people for years has a story that tells a lot if you look at it from the right angle. It’s true that the idea of Microsoft was born from a college desk level –but isn’t that the sort of a place where most of the ingenious ideas are born? What is more important, where the idea was born or what the idea was?! Of course, it is the idea that matters. To me, for every success story in the world, there is but one essential element; an idea, an approach that no one else has taken before –something on the lines of innovation and invention. Revolutionizing the realm of computers has actually changed the course of history –an ingenious idea!

The life of Mr. Trump, surely a happening one tells us never to give up. So there’s another element we need to have in our basket; resilience. The man has been termed as the King of Comebacks, and why not, he not only rose out of multi billion dollars of debt but even regained his financial strength.

My conclusion is simple; stay persistent, show resilience and most importantly have an idea of your own, and you’ll see that success is not a rocket science, it’s just a matter of inputs.
