Fake Degree Holders should be Excluded from General Elections

on Friday, April 12, 2013

All political parties in Pakistan are getting ready for the general elections of 2013. Almost all care-taking ministers have taken charge and are preparing for the elections. The Election Commission has announced all rules and regulations designed for the candidates who wish to take part in the general elections of 2013. Parties are looking forward and helping their candidates in submitting documents for registration with the election commission. The Election Commission has turned all setup of records into digital and computerized form. They are really emphasizing on the categories and terms which is formed and set for the candidates. Every candidate must be capable of following these rules.

One of the rules set by the Election Commission in 2008 is that every politician and (MNA) Member of the National Assembly must be a graduate. Unfortunately, many of our politicians are under graduate, and they have shown fake degrees to remain in politics. This time the government and the Election Commission are concentrating on such politicians who have submitted fake degrees or the Election Commission has doubt on their degrees. Last days, news was heard about the previous minister of education, Mr. Sheikh Waqas akram that he has a fake degree of O level. London school of Cambridge has declared that the degree Mr. Sheikh has, was not certified and the higher education commission has also denied the reorganization of their stamp and signature of authentication mentioned on the degree or certificate that Mr. Sheikh have.

Now for the general elections expected on 11 May, 2013, The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has sent the names of very popular politicians to the (ECP) the Election Commission of Pakistan in regard of having some issues with their degrees and certificates. Most known names are Asrarullah Zehri, Nisar Ali Shah, Mir Badshah Qaisrani, Safdar Warraich, Seemal Kamran, Shumaila Rana, Akhwandazada Chattan, Samina Khwar Hayat, Ghulam Dastgir Raja, Waseem Afzal Gondal, Umar George, and Qasim Zia. These people have either submitted doubt-able degrees or incomplete documents. The Higher Education Commission also asked for the help of different universities and colleges, to give them records of all people who have submitted their documents for participating in the general elections. As a facilitation, all people and politicians who have applied for participating in the elections, the ECP has made a full proof computerized scanning system which not only scan the whole document but also scan the degree stamp name and picture of the candidate, so that if any person has used original degree of any person with the same name will be recognized and differentiated by the picture present on the degree and the certificates.

Many other measurements have been taken by the Election Commission of Pakistan to avoid any fake degree holder from taking part in the general elections. The ECP has announced publically that if any common person know about the degree which is going to be misused in the election participation they are free to report directly to the ministry running the ECP. For the ease and the removal of hesitation, the Election Commission has set a separate telephone line and online assistance for the welfare of such concerned people.
