The army is a force trained to protect the nation, but in Egypt it has been revealed that the army had a major role in torturing the people during protests. The army was called upon by the Government of Hosni Mubarak. A document leaked in which it was stated that the army was involved in the killings of the people. It was also reported that there are lots of people missing after that protest, and the army is also said to have been involved in the missing cases.
The higher authorities of the army said in a statement that they had nothing to do with the Government of Hosni Mubarak, and they also said that they would stay neutral during the protest as they were handling the defense only. But this statement was proved wrong as the document suggests that the army has been involved in the kidnapping of hundreds of people
President Mohamed Morsi has made a commitment that he would try to find answers for the incidents that happened during the protests in Cairo. But there are lots of questions raised about the credibility of the commission as it is said that the committee is handpicked by the president himself. Radia Atta, one of the wives of a missing person, said that her husband had been missing during the eighteen days of revolution in Cairo. She also added that no one took the responsibility of her missing husband.
High level investigations have been made by the government officials, and there were evidence found that the army was involved, but the supreme council of the army has declined that there were any chances of prosecution of any army officials. The investigation committee also mentioned in a report that most of the men, who were kidnapped, were either killed or moved to unknown places but the important fact is that Hosni Mubarak was held responsible for all of those activities using the army but the army was constantly denying all the allegations held on them.
A source has also reported that President Morsi has not seen the report on the fact findings, and according to the spokesmen of the president, the finding that came up to the scene were based on speculations, and they were said to be not accurate at all.
The spokesman also said that the investigations are still going on, and it’s quite early to say anything about the results and who is accountable for all the incidents. Positional leaders and the protestors are demanding for the accountability of the persons including the army that were involved in all the heartbreaking incidents in Cairo.
