Ali Al-Habsi is an Omani football player who was the goal keeper in the Premier League from Wigan Athletic. Ali Abdullah Harib Al-Hasbi was born in Muscat; he began his football career with Al Midhaibi and then transferred to Al-Nasr team. He had also signed to Lyn Oslo (Norway Club) and played for three seasons. Ali Al-Hasbi was the first Omani football player to play internationally; he was the first Muslim football player playing in Europe. Ali Al-Habsi was nominated as the ‘Norwegian Goalkeeper of the year’ in 2004. In 2006, Ali Al-Habsi was transferred to Bolton Wanderers. Ali Al-Habsi made his first debut in the Premier League through Bolton Wanderers against Wigan Athletic. Because of his extraordinary performance, Al-Habsi was rewarded with his contract extension from 2008 to 2013; however, the contract ended when Jussi Jaaskelance (a Finnish football goalkeeper) had returned and recovered from his injury. In 2010, Al Al-Habsi joined Wigan Athletic and made debut in the League Cup in 2010. Al Al-Habsi was named ‘Wigan’s Player of the Season’ for the two consecutive years 2010 and 2011. Ali Al-Hasbi is now a permanent member of Wigan Athletic, and his recent performance in the Premier League was remarkable.
