Nuclear Power In Pakistan

Pakistan has become the first Muslim country to have a well-established nuclear power plant. In the year 2009, Pakistan nuclear power was being supplied by 3 licensed commercial nuclear power plants. The firms that are responsible for the operation of the nuclear power plants include the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), as well as the governmental agency that has been one of the most active in supplying the nuclear energy in Pakistan.

By the year 2009, the amount of power that was being produced by Pakistan continued to increase tremendously. In this year, it was able to have a power supply of electricity of about 2 percent of the nuclear plant. In addition to that, Pakistan is among the Muslim countries that are nuclear armed. They have a wide range of nuclear facilities which are very sophisticated and dangerous that can cause mass destruction. India and North Korea are also among the countries that have nuclear facilities plant.

However, India and Korea are not among the members of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. On the other hand, they are members of the organization that supports the proper usage of the nuclear and atomic energy. This organization has been established to ensure that there is proper usage of the nuclear facilities that are produced all over the globe rather than using it for destruction purposes. This is because the energy produced as well as the emission of the chemicals that are within the production firms are very high and harmful. If they are not well taken care of, they might have dangerous health effects on people.

The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission has worked hand in hand with the British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL) so that they can come up with a better use of the plutonium energy as well as device means to have proper nuclear firms for the purpose of reprocessing. Material assistance as well as funds for the plants came from various sources. The whole project began in the year 1972, and up to this point, there were a number of nuclear reactor plants that have already been in operation.

The production processes faced a lot of challenges. They got terminated several times because America was not pleased with the concept of having nuclear plant in 1977. Even though France assisted in resuming the project, it was resumed only to be cancelled again in the year 2000. After the reprocessing of the nuclear plant, other parties like the Chinese, the Indians and the Soviet Union had shown greater interest. At the present moment, there are only 3 nuclear reactors that are running in Pakistan. There is not any information about the other reactors whether they are operational or they will run in the near future. Russia, also, has a well-established nuclear plant. It assists Iran to build a nuclear facility so that they can fight back their rivals.
