The legal case of James Everett Dutschke

on Sunday, May 5, 2013

On Tuesday, the first suspect Elvis impersonator named Kevin Curtis, 45, was accused by the FBI in the ricin letter case who was also charged by the prosecutors. He was taken in remand on the 17th of April. His place was searched nearby Corinth, but no useful evidences were found so he was released after six days. Some new information has been unlocked during the investigation, but the prosecutors maintained the silence, and didn’t provide much information regarding it. Then the focus turned to another suspect Dutschke who has denied his involvement in mailing the ricin letter.

James Everett Dutschke, 41, a martial arts instructor was taken into remand on Saturday. The department of justice has found him guilty for using the biological agent ricin (Ricin is made from Castrol bean when refined into aerosol form that may be used as a weapon and is deadly to humans) in the form of weapons to cause a threat to the president and the other two men including a judge and a Mississippi senator reportedly. Early on Saturday morning, Dutschke was taken in remand by the FBI agent after investigating his work place and house at his tupelo house, this was reported to the media by the FBI spokeswomen Deborah Madden. He is expected to present himself on Monday in the US district court in Oxford, Mississippi. If he is found guilty, he may be charged with a life imprisonment, five years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000.

After he was arrested, he was kept in remand for a week, and the investigators mainly paid attention to the rivals of the suspect. On his investigation, Dutschke denied his involvement in the ricin case saying that he has no grudges on anyone, and he is loyal to his nation. During his hearing on Monday, Dutschke said few things beyond answering the questions addressed to him by the judge. Until a preceding and a detention investigation, Dutschke has been ordered to be jailed and the next hearing was scheduled on Thursday.

Lori Basham, the lawyer of Dutschke maintained silence and didn’t respond to the calls and comments regarding her client, but later in the week she gave a statement that her client has nothing to do with those ricin letters and denied the allegation on her client.

Already, Dutschke has been facing many legal problems regarding his earlier cases. Earlier this month, he was found involved in the molestation of children including three girls who were younger than 16, and among them one was from his martial art academy. At a different incidence, he has been appealing for the conviction. When he was asked regarding this case last week in a press conference, he ignored the questions saying that his lawyer has told him not to comment on any other cases.

The ricin letter intended for Obama, the President and the Senator Roger Wicker, the republician of Mississippi was recovered from the offsite mail last week before getting into the hands of the victims. The investigations led to the discovery of the involvement of the authorities dealing with Boston Marathon bombing which was quite shocking.
