on Thursday, May 9, 2013

The Syrian Prime Minister was the main target in the bomb that was exploded on Monday near Damascus. The bomb immediately exploded as the convoy of the Prime Minister Wael Nader Al-Halqi reached the neighborhood of Damascus, sources said. A car was used for the bomb which was standing near to the place from where the convoy had to move. As there are a number of blasts in Syria that have not only caused anarchy but also killed hundreds of people.

Previously, the Prime Minister was also targeted in an attack that was made by insurgents in central districts in the Syrian capital. One of the senior officials who live in Mezze, where the latest bomb was exploded, said that one of the bodyguards have been killed in the attack. There are a number of casualties resulted in the attack but the Prime Minister was said to be safe with no injuries. There are a number of videos showed on television that showed how lethal the attack was. The series of attacks has something to do with a plan in which only high profile personalities of the government have been targeted. Ali Balan who was appointed as the chief coordinator of emergency aid distribution to civilians was shot dead in a restaurant despite being guarded heavily. One of the Damascus mosques was hit by a bomb killing Syria’s top Sunni scholar including 42 persons that were killed in the same blast.

The protest, that was started in March 2011, have now resulted in a civil war in Syria. All of the allies that were supporting president El-Assad were also targeted by the insurgents as they attacked the security headquarters in last July.

According to the Syrian national television, all of the attacks that were made either on the president or the prime ministers is by a terrorist organization that don’t want to have peace in the Syrian soil. The Syrian government is having talks with US officials in order to cope with the situation in Syria as Mr Halqi has a major role to play in the dialogue with the USA. The Syrian government is seeking support from the US as Halqi said “We are partners in fighting terrorism,”

The United Nations is having a closer look at what is happening in Syria. The fact finding panel appointed by the United Nations reported that it suspected there is a use of chemical weapons in the civil war. It is also mentioned that the Syrian government is responsible for allowing the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

One of the panel leaders while speaking to some reporters said that they are ready for the deployment in Syria as there is a collaboration going on with the Syrian government on this issue. The delay in the panel visit was due to the fact that the Syrian government has refused to give access to all of the sensitive suspected sites.
