Four years prison sentence for the three Briton men in Dubai torture case

The three men reportedly Grant Cameron, Suneet Jeerhand, Karl Williams who were arrested when they were holidaying in the Gulf for having drugs with them have been found guilty and were sentenced for four years.They were found with a certain quantity of synthetic cannabis called a “spice”. On July 2012, they were arrested following which they claimed that they were being tortured by the police by electric shocks, and they were threatened by holding guns at their heads.

From the three men, Karl William gave details about how they were torched by the police post their arrest to the human rights. He said that his face was covered a towel and electric shocks were given on his private part. He also stated that they were beaten in a deserted place for 45 minutes, and then were taken to some hotel room where all three of them were kept separate rooms and were forced to sign some documents which were in Arabic language with guns pointed at their heads. The police denied all the allegation put on them by the accuse. Following their first trial hearing, which was held after seven months of their arrest, they were not found guilty in the charges filed against them.

On Monday morning, the leading newspaper “Downing Street” confirmed that a torture allegation can be raised on the official trip of two days, which starts on Tuesday by David Cameron against the United Arab Emirates head, and before the trip he is expected to meet the two accuse. He also stated that the government can never tolerate any allegation of mistreatment of their people, and they totally condemn it. During a press conference on Monday, one of the spokesmen said that it is expected that there can be many issues apart from this to be raised.

After the proper investigation and sentencing, one of the authorized persons stated that the UAE copes have just torched the three men, and no investigation was started for the abuse. So there is no reason in keeping the men in prison. Reprieve investigator, Kate Higham, said that they should provide them with clemency and allow them to return to their families by releasing them. He also said that David Cameron must clear a few important things with the UAE president in a few days, regarding the proper investigation of the men torture allegation, and assure that this will not be repeated in the future.

The FCO (The foreign and common wealth officer) said on a press release that they are very much concerned about this issue, and they consider this torture allegation cases very seriously. There is a constant discussion going with the UAE authorities regarding this case. He also said that they are looking for a positive response. Apart from that we are raising this issue to most senior level ministers and the media. We are also seeking a full-fledged investigation on this issue. We are expecting their full cooperation. These matters are going to be discussed in details with the UAE president visit which is expected this week.
