A Tribute To All Laborers

on Saturday, May 4, 2013

On the 1st of May, the citizens of Pakistan celebrated the Labor day. It is one of the public holidays on which all the private non government and government institutions are closed every year. Different rallies, processions and marches are organized to pay homage to the Laborers of Pakistan.

In 1972, the setup of labour day was passed, and it was made a public holiday in Pakistan. There are different articles included in the constitution of Pakistan that are in favor of the labour’s rights. I want to mention here that at the time of independence, Pakistan was a member of the International Labour Organization, which is a UN agency. This organization works on the rights of the labour.

There is no doubt that, the laborers are the backbone of a country. If we imagine the progress of a  country without labours, then it will become impossible to achieve any goal. Pakistan is an under developed country which is striving hard for progress. The conditions of the country are becoming pathetic day by day, inflation in commodities is escalating, and other factors are making the life of labou very difficult. They can’t consume the highly priced food. They can’t even wear new clothes because they are unable to bear the high prices of it.

There are so many people who belong to the workers class; they have little dreams in their eyes, but unfortunately, they don’t have enough resources to fulfill them. We should salute their efforts and hard work as they spend their whole life striving through hard conditions but they never complain to anybody. This day is celebrated to pay a tribute to the laborers. Those who work under the hot sunshine and don’t sleep the whole night to complete their given task. They never care about their lives for finishing their jobs, take the example of Baldia Town Karachi. Many laborers died while performing their duties. There are so many people who are scared because of this incident, but still they are working in sensitive areas for the betterment of the country.

The work class or laborers in many other countries are enjoying their rights, but unfortunately, our laborers are not getting even their basic rights. They don’t get proper wages or health facilities for their tough work. They don’t even stand with the high class people. Sometimes, when we pass by the labor, we make faces after looking at their dirty appearance, which is not a right attitude. We should thank them as we are enjoying a relaxed environment in our houses and offices because of them. I was literally shocked when I came across the fact that even laborers don’t get the 1st of May as a holiday. This is very in just to them. According to me, we should fight for the rights of the laborers because celebrating the Labor day only will not change their lives.
