How to Follow Islam Effectively In a Non-Muslim Society?

There are major five religions followed in the world including Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Chinese folk religion. People of different states and regions are following different religions according to their perception about righteous. Christianity is based on the teachings and life of Jesus, Judaism is one of the oldest religions originating in ancient Judea and Israel, Islam is the second largest religion in the world after Christianity, and Islam is based on the teachings of Quran and Sunnah of Holy Prophet Mohammad PBUH.

There are various countries in North Africa, Southeast Asia, Western Asia, Southeast Europe, South Asia, Central Asia and Sub Saharan Africa with Muslim majority areas. In Holy Quran, Muslims are said to follow their religious practices and never try to adopt any culture or traditions other than the mentioned in Islam. Islamic traditions and cultures are totally different from other religions.

As we all know, various Muslims are recently living in non Muslim societies such as United States of America, China, United Kingdom, France etc. The Culture, tradition and life style of non Muslims are totally different from Muslims. Abuse of drugs and alcohol, premarital sex, and immoral behaviors are some common practices in the western and European culture. Such practices are not tolerable in Islam. Muslims are not allowed to mingle themselves in these activities. So, Muslim communities in such areas should adopt precautions to keep themselves away from the hell.

Some non Muslim societies allow the practices of Islam while some limit this freedom. The situation of Muslim minorities living in these states usually depends upon the law and local practices.  Here are some effective guidelines that Muslims need to follow in non Muslim societies in order to practice teachings of Islam effectively.

• Muslims are strictly advised to avoid things that are Haram such as alcohol, premarital sex, discos and other such activities. Muslims must follow the proper Islamic values. There are various hotels and restaurants that offer alcohol and various other food items that are Haram in Islam and the users may use them without knowing. So, in order to avoid haram, you should equip yourself with knowledge about food. Muslims prefer hotels and restaurants that don’t offer alcohol and wine free and separate spa and swimming facilities.
• Muslim women living in non Muslim societies must costume themselves according to the teachings of Islam. They should follow the dress code recommended by Islam.
• It is a well known fact that kids usually follow the things they are taught in their early age for the rest of their lives. Thai is why Muslim families living in non Muslim societies need to teach their kids the teachings of Islam in their early age.
• Islam totally discourages racism. Muslims need to treat non Muslims in nice and friendly way. They need to create a friendly atmosphere among the Muslims and non Muslims.
