HOW CAN WE GET CLOSE TO ALLAH?

It is the desire of every Muslim to get closer to ALLAH because to be close to our creator is a fundamental need of every Human being. We all can try to come closer to ALLAH and ALLAH in his all majesty and glory can be closer to all of us at the same time. No one can get closer to ALLAH without making any effort. ALLAH grants his closeness to those people who strive to get close to Him and make efforts.

ALLAH says in Quran:

“When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on Me.” (Al-Baqarah 2, 186)

There are many ways by which we can get close to ALLAH:

FULFILLING OBLIGATORY DUTIES:

ALLAH has made some duties compulsory for us, and without following those duties our faith is not complete. These duties are mandatory such as Prayers, Zakat, Hajj and Fasting, and above all we should have faith in oneness of ALLAH; “There is no GOD but ALLAH and Muhammad SAW is the Prophet of ALLAH”. Being good to parents is another important duty. These duties can draw us closer to ALLAH, and these duties are the first things that guide us to the right path and make us believe that we are near ALLAH.

REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAH (ZIKR):

Another way of being closer to ALLAH is remembering him by doing Zikr and Tasbeeh. We should recite “Astaghfirullah” so that ALLAH can forgive our sins, “Alhamdulillah” so that we can thank ALLAH for all his blessing and “Subhanallah” for all his beautiful creations. The more we remember ALLAH, the more he will remember us.

CALLING UPON ALLAH IN DUA’A:

We should call ALLAH in dua’a and ask him for everything that we need as He answers our all prayers. Dua’a builds a close relationship with ALLAH and ALLAH loves it when people call Him in Dua’a. We should believe that our dua’a will be accepted and if not then ALLAH is keeping rewards for us in hereafter.

BUILDING A STRING CONNECTION WITH QURAN:

Recite Holy Quran as much as you can. Memorizing or Reciting Quran is just not enough. Understanding each and every word is the most important, and then act upon it and lead your life according to it. That is the best way to gain ALLAH’s blessings and mercy. Quran has solutions for every problem of your life. We should recite it daily and understand each word and act upon it and strive for the best.

KEEPING GOOD COMPANY:

“A person is known by the company he keeps”. One of the most important things is keeping good company and good friends. Avoid bad company and avoid taking those people who miss Salah, backbite, slander as friends. We should make pious friends so that we can also get benefits from them. We should seek out those friends who have fear of ALLAH and who have qualities of modesty, charity, knowledge and compassion.

FOLLOW THE SUNNAH OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PEACE BE UPON HIM):

The most important duty is to follow the Sunnah of Muhammad SAWW which guides us to the right Path. We can get the love of ALLAH by following Sunnah, and if we get the love of ALLAH then we can get closer to Him and have good manners and ethics from Sunnah.

There are many ways of keeping ourselves closer to ALLAH. But the one who really loves ALLAH and wants to seek guidance will exert every effort to get His mercy and glory. This is for our own benefits. We should try every effort to gain ALLAH’s mercy and love, and we should forward the teachings of Quran and Sunnah to others. This is one of the best way to get close to ALLAH.
