Ramadan is the holiest Islamic month. Muslims wait for this month eagerly to seek forgiveness from Almighty ALLAH. Muslims observing Ramadan are not allowed to eat or drink for the whole day, but they are recommended to have two special meals. Suhoor and Iftar. Ramadan is the month of unity and solidarity for Muslims. The spirit of Ramadan lies in fasting, praying and togetherness. In the month of Ramadan, the environment totally changes. Shops get full with imported dry dates and snacks.
In Ramadan, some people have diet issues or issues with food because of fasting. So to keep healthy, we prefer simple and light food. Avoid eating too much food in Iftar as it results in suffocation and other diseases. It is preferred to eat light food in Suhoor, as well. Most people eat heavy and oily food in Suhoor and then they have a feeling of Nausea for the whole day which is not good. You can better have dates in Suhoor or eat food which is good for health like eggs, peanut butter sandwich and protein shakes. Eat slow digesting foods which include grains and seeds. Eat fiber containing food which includes vegetables, wheat, seeds etc. Don’t eat too much and heavy food which makes praying difficult.
The body’s immediate need at the time of iftar is to get an easily available energy source in the form of glucose. Dates and juices are good sources of energy. You should also have vegetable soup with some pasta. Juice and soup help maintain water and mineral balance in the body. Fruit and Vegetable salad are also good sourceS of energy. Avoid oily food and eat food which contains fiber.
Some people like to eat food after “Taraweeh” So they can have rice, bread or some sort of chicken gravy. We should be careful to prepare an iftar table which offers well-balanced food for dietary needs.
Ramadan is the month of blessings so we should concentrate on our prayers rather than focusing and preparing diet charts. We should keep balance in our diet so eating less, and good food can make you healthier. This month is a great opportunity to focus on bringing back a balanced and healthy lifestyle and through fasting you learn how to manage eating habits and improve self discipline.
