← PreviousNext →A $40 million fund-raising campaign to improve the Central park playgrounds was announced last week by the Central Park Conservancy, which is the nonprofit group that manages the park. Thousands of children who play in the park will surely benefit from this initiative.Although money shouldn’t be a problem since the conservancy has some of the wealthiest patrons in the city, there is a burning question as to the fate of the countless city parks that don’t benefit from private fund-raising. Parks that don’t benefit from private fund-raising include the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, in Queens that is now marred by broken drainage, graffiti as well as pervasive litter, and the St. Mary’s Park that is located...

Travel to Baghdad

on Friday, May 31, 2013

← PreviousNext →Baghdad was once a city bustling and full of life. About 98% of its population was literate, and 99% had access to safe drinking water. But all that is history. Baghdad is little more than a wasteland now. It is certainly not a tourist spot; even more so if you happen to be from the USA or any other western country. Baghdad is now a hostile place for its own citizens and foreigners. Most monuments that were worth travelling miles for and libraries that have housed thousands of years of knowledge were reduced to less than ashes by the US bombings and invasion. What remains of these historical objects are being defiled by the native people, in search of petty benefits. Before one begins to advice on the places...

Muslims Should Learn to Tolerate

on Friday, May 31, 2013

← PreviousNext →Islam is such a religion that preaches tolerance, mercy, and kindness. The definition of tolerance that was set by our Prophet was a guiding star for all Muslims. He was unduly oppressed by the people of his birthplace Mecca. Physical torture was a part of his daily routine, but still the Prophet kept on preaching the message of Allah and went on bearing the oppression by practicing tolerance. If a Muslim is not tolerant, then his belief is incomplete. On day a person asked the Prophet (P.B.U.H), “What is Eman?” The Prophet P.B.U.H replied: “Eman is tolerance and patience.” Tolerance is one of the important aspects of human rights. Islam teaches Muslims how to tolerate....

Islam and the West –could we bring about a new era!

on Thursday, May 30, 2013

← PreviousWhere there’s hope, there is a way. There’s nothing in this whole world that cannot be achieved by human beings if they really want to. This last phrase is of more importance; “if they really want to”. This is important because I see the reason why the West and the Muslims of the world are not at an unambiguous peace ever is because they have never actually wanted to. This stands true for most of the western countries and most of the Muslim countries –if not all.We know that Muslims make up around one fourth to one third of the world’s population, which means that every third or fourth person that a westerner meets will be a Muslim. Similarly, the term West if considered in the usual,...

THE BLESSING OF BEING A MUSLIM

on Wednesday, May 29, 2013

← PreviousNext →No matter how much it is criticized by the west, they cannot change the facts. And that is so because of two irrefutable facts; the people who criticize Islam are either non-Muslims or Muslim by name only and second; every other religion has been altered and manipulated by people so much that the real form of those religions has ceased to exist. Furthermore, it carries no value as to what a certain minute group of people has to say about a faith if the group in question is biased about everything other than themselves. Such is the case with most of the critics of Islam; they believe that what they follow is correct, and what they do not follow cannot be correct. In a situation like this, the responsibility...
