There are certain problems that many Muslims face on their lives. The problems that will be mentioned here do not represent all Muslims across the world. These problems are the results of personal observations.
To begin, when considering the life of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), it becomes evident that he continually considered being a Muslim is to be more effective in society than transferring the religion to others. However, it seems Muslims these days are trying very hard to convey the religion. In other words, they prefer ‘talking’ about Islam because they would like to inform others. But, as history tells us, the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) had devoted his life to actually practicing Islam and not just talking about it. His attention was focused on actually ‘carrying out deeds’ instead of just talking about it.
The next problem that has plagued Muslims is that we have forgotten to prioritize our responsibilities and duties. When dealing with issues that concern our lives, we seem continually to prioritize them on the basis of dictating conditions that are generally associated with geography, culture and global development, whilst not conforming with the Quran or Sunnah. Disagree? Well, what would you say to a person who regularly adheres to a particular Sunnah (a certain deed that was carried out by the Prophet) and even promotes it among others, whilst not paying any attention whatsoever to being punctual with regards to, let’s say, prayer timings? Prayer timings, that too punctual are a ‘must follow’ when compared to a Sunnah, which is basically to be adhered to or observed on a voluntary or individual basis. To be honest, we seem to have lost our sense of responsibility and duty, and we end up mixing up and confusing both of these distinct elements, be it intentionally or unintentionally.
The final problem that deserves to be mentioned here is that we have lost our sense of ‘self’ and have become plagued by the disease of imitation. Many Muslims find it troublesome to be themselves and are generally adhering to the values, ideas, norms and lifestyles that carry traits of other societies, all of which are not based on Islam or Islamic morals. This tendency basically leads to misdeeds, misrepresentation and a general misinterpretation all over the world and causes severe misunderstanding between the Islamic world, Muslims and the West.
Although these three problems are rather substantial on their own, the worst issue to have hit us Muslims is that of denial – yes, half of us won’t even accept these faults. The major reason why people would never acknowledge them is that it would trigger change and that, as we know, is something that humans avoid. In order to stick to the true basics of Islam and create a better image of our dear religion, it is necessary for us to change right now.
