Followers of Islam have the faith that Allah is their upholder and their creator. Allah has written all the rules in His book Quran which He revealed on His the last beloved prophet Muhammad (PBUH). All the commandments and guidance regarding life, death, rewards and punishments in hereafter are given in this book. Quran also mentions all the rules and regulations for the Islamic clothing which prophet (PBUH) taught through his practices. The main intention of Islamic clothing is that the body of man and woman should be covered as imposed by Islamic and Quran. The Islamic teachings require the woman to cover all the areas of her body except face and hands.

Concept of mahram and na-mahram should also be understood while understanding the purpose and idea of Islamic clothing. Mahram are the men who include fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, fathers-in-law, and sons of brothers and sisters of a woman and none other than these relationships are allowed to fall in this class of non-mahram.

Here are mentioned some of the main Islamic clothing articles with their brief description.  Abayas are sometimes referred as jalibabs which means something that wraps or covers. These abayas or jibabs have sort of western look and these look like a long overcoat. Hijab is the regular clothing of most Muslim women in the world. There is another cover along with abaya and that is. Hijab is used to cover the head and hair. This word hijab is derived from Arabic word “hajaba” which means “to hide”. Various forms of hijab are designed by manufacturers to adhere Muslim women to the Islamic teachings. Hijab for Muslim women are made from different kinds of fabrics for example polyester and a blend fabric they are also available in cotton. Cotton hijabs are used in summer season to have a cooling effect. According to Islamic teachings Muslim women cannot show her head and hair to na-mahram but can show to na-mahram like father, brother, son and husband etc.

However in different Muslim societies and cultures women keep their head cover in front of father and other respectable mahram relationships but this is not mandatory, hijab should be taken or sewn such that it should stay on the head and should not slip, and show the hair and head. Middle East women wear Dishdasha which is a long robe. To cover hair head and the neck completely Muslim women also wear Shawls and different types of Scarves as a hijab. Contrary to the western clothing this is thought to be the best form of clothing in Muslim and especially Arab countries. There is a garment called Niqab which is used by women to cover the face from na-mehram. Less challenging garments for Muslim women are long skirts which cover their body up to ankles. Women wearing these skirts are mostly visible in western markets. As it is described earlier that woman in Islam are not allowed to show their bodies and they should wear such dresses which should conceal their body shape and outline so for that Muslim women choose to wear long blouses and tops which can hide their waist.
