—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—

NEW YORK, NY (August 14, 2013) – The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) strongly condemns today’s massacre in Egypt, of peaceful pro-democracy protestors resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of wounded.

“ICNA also demands the immediate lifting of all restrictions on media, freedom of expression and the freedom of peaceful assembly being imposed by the Egyptian military.

“ICNA welcomes the Obama administration’s condemnation of the incident, however the need of the hour is to take action for the release of all political prisoners and the restoration of individual democratic rights in Egypt.

ICNA President Naeem Baig said “We condemn all violence including those on the Egyptian Christian community. These politics of dividing the Egyptian society will lead the country down a dangerous road of spiraling violence and suppression of basic human rights”.

Once again ICNA demands that the US Government cease all military aid to Egypt as per the current US law.
