Indo-Pak Cease Fire Violation

on Thursday, January 10, 2013

The government of Pakistan has proposed the option of UN investigation for the cease fire violation along Pak-Indo border as a couple days India protested the killing of its two soldiers by Pakistan military along the heavily militarized border. India claimed that Pakistan was the one who was involved in the cease fire violation and killed two of its soldiers. However, Pakistan responded back by proposing an option of UN investigation as it is not clear whether it was India or Pakistan.

Hina Rabbani Khar, the foreign minister of Pakistan, said, “These allegations are baseless and unfounded.” She also added that we established an environment of trust with the India and hearing such allegations from their sides are quite painful. Moreover, she said that we are ready for the UN investigation as this will clear up whether Pakistan was involved in cease fire violation or not.

Pakistan also suggested strengthening the military connection, so these events do not take place in future again. Pakistan is always there to build strong relation with India in every department of life since it is very important for the South Asian region. Lately, Pakistan has done a lot to normalize the ever increasing tension between the countries. Therefore, it is very important for both the countries to do their bid and avoid spreading the negativity as it will only mess up the entire situation.

Hina Rabbani Khar also said that Pakistan is “appalled” to hear certain allegations from the India side as they are quite baseless. “I represent a government that has invested four years to build an environment of trust [with India] in order to move towards regional peace and internal stability,” she told India’s CNN-IBN news channel.

A senior military officer from Islamabad on the condition of not exposing his identity said, “We have offered a third-party investigation but India does not appear to be willing for that.” He also added that Pakistan authorities have informed Indian government that investigation carried out by the Pakistan did not found anything to support their claims therefore they are ready to invite UN for the investigation in order to find the hidden truth.

“We cannot and must not allow for an escalation of a very unwholesome event that has taken place,” Salman Khurshid told reporters in New Delhi.

On the other hand the United States of America is hoping that the countries will establish a peaceful environment in the region will refrain themselves from these acts in the future. “The issue of tensions, historical tensions between India and Pakistan is one that the secretary (of Defense Leon Panetta) knows very well,” Press Secretary George Little said at a briefing in wake of Line of Control ceasefire violation in the disputed Kashmir region.

We have to wait and see whether India agrees to the Pakistan’s proposal of free and square investigation because this is how we can get to know who violated the cease fire on the line of control. We can just hope such incidents do not take place again.
