Western Culture Is Indeed Good To the Modern Society

Western culture is traceable to Ancient Greece. From there, it has developed through the middle ages when it vanished in Europe and instead resided in Arab / Persian region to a modest degree. Rediscovery of western culture in the European area in the Late Middle-Ages prompted a Renaissance. Its continued development led to Scientific Revolution, Enlightenment, American Revolution, and Industrial Revolution and finally, what is now considered the modern civilization.

It is amazing how the Western culture has spread across the globe. Today, many people, young and old are aping the western culture in one way or another. No culture has been spared the effect of the West. Print and electronic media have as well done a lot to promote the Western culture either directly or indirectly. Elders from various cultures have often cried foul and stated that the modern generations have become a slave of the western culture; other cultures have also attempted to demonize the western culture as symbolic of moral decadence within the society. A number of orthodox minds have been quick to point out that Western culture is leading the youths astray. Is western culture really worth demonizing or is it good for the global population? This is a question worth exploring.

Elders have over the years baselessly condemned the western culture associating with most, if not all, the ills facing the modern society. The truth however is that every culture has its own negatives and positives and one should be condemned for ills of its adherents. Character is more of an individual decision rather than as a reflection of the larger culture. However, it cannot be ignored that many youths hide in the guise of western culture to perpetrate unacceptable behaviors and as such giving it a bad image. So, is the western culture good? Let us dissect this question.

The western culture has done a lot in creating the modern society we live in today. A closer look at the corners of the world and one would realize that the western culture is responsible for lots of good things including development and social change, progress and to a large extent; it has largely contributed to acknowledgement of human rights. A closer glance at the past reveals multiple instances where Western culture has assisted in removal of superstitions, fallacies as well as disastrous acts associated with various cultures across the world. In many African and Asian cultures, thanks to western culture, women role in the development of the society is now recognized.  Almost every sphere of life has lots of positive contributions from the western civilization.

Humans have lived on Earth for over a million years. Nonetheless, civilization and sophisticated lifestyles in cities has only existed in the past 5,000. Across history, human civilizations have risen and fell, chipped through nature, relied on nature, and ultimately, nature outdid them. In the past few years though, a form of civilization emerged, the west civilization, this has altered the delicate nature balance forever.

Dressing has not been spared with the coming of western culture. Indians no longer wear the traditional dresses, Africans no longer wear their funny hides but rather these cultures, among others have all gone western. Jeans, t-shirts, minis, and micros, are the order of the day. Western culture has in deed revolutionized the global dressing culture and not even Muslim religious faithfully have been spared. Many are adopting western dressing, with time.

The reasoning foundations set by the western culture have further helped in accumulating extensive understanding in relation to reality and nature, human nature included. This understating is enshrined in multiple core ideals as well as values, such as individualism, joy, human rights, capitalism, and more importantly, science and technology.

As already mentioned, western culture is the pillar of advanced culture considering that’s its ideas and core values are pegged on promotion of development and sustainability of advanced civilization. In deed, the western culture has done lots of good. Although it has brought along some undesirable practices, what culture has not and additionally, they are not close to matching the benefits western culture has brought to the society. Industrial revolution is here, equality is practiced, education is at its best and many more other areas are doing good, thanks to western culture.
